man...ucla..what a great school. SUch a great campus...GOD wWHEN WILL THE APPS COME?!!! Im like freakin dying here. if i get accepted, BAM!!! party all night and start a parade(just kidding). but if i get rejected......community colelge here i come........

So let me get this straight...UCLA or Community College? How is that? I would hope you applied to other UC's.

well...UCLA is the only college i wanan go to..nithing else

haha i feel the same way
if i make it.. pure happiness.. and if i dont.. ill be really sad

I feel the same way as you Diablo...except I have already done my time at a CC, so if I don't get into UCLA I am confident I will get into one of the other three UC's I applied to.

Two more weeks, I think. Just two more. Temper thy impatience.

This is cliche, but if you're riding your hope on one university, that's not too good.

An NFL football player spends the entire season (life?) working for but one goal, to get in and win the Super Bowl.

Getting great stats, big money and numerous wins aren't enough to satisfy those with lofty goals. Should a player be proud of all they accomplish throughout the yeah, even if they get in but lose the Super Bowl...sure...but how do they feel?

The point being, we all have goals and standards we desire to achieve...for those on this board, that goal is UCLA...it is for me. All other UC's are sorrowful runner-up prizes.

I want that Super Bowl ring! UCLA or bust baby!!!

And this goal of UCLA is but one goal for many of us...here is mine:

1) Do well at CCC

2) Get into UCLA

3) Do well on MCAT

4) Get into med school

5) Graduate and be the best doc I can be

Should 3 and 4 go horribly wrong, I have backup plans, but still...I have pinned my hopes on being a doctor. To be singular of goal allows one to be singular of purpose and to focus intensely.

Is the horse dead enough yet? Sorry. ;)

well...for me..its either get in NOW!! or get in after doing well in Community college. I planned to major in history cuz the lowest history grade i have ever gotten is a 96. and SAT II.got 800 on US history and 800 on world history. yea..just hope to GOd they will not notice my horrific math. (i have goten hours of tutoring and the best grade i have gotten is a B....minus.........................)

just wondering..will my crappy math screw me over even though i show that i plan to major in history and have gotten A's in history and english throughout high school. oh..the weird thing is..im those special azns who is better at english/history

1337noh4k4 ...almost every college that you have applied to..in this case only one i guess to UCLA, will know that your weakness is in math and you excel in history. Since you applied history, you have the upper hand. Also, most people who apply to UCLA are people who want to be doctors. WHy ucla? why not northwestern or some IVy schools that have excellent history programs?

Cuz a UC cost only $5k a year. ;)

And UCLA has a fairly decent History program reputation.

Well exilo, I didn't mean that we shouldn't have dreams and high standards and goals; I've learned that the higher expectations I have, the worse the disappointment. That's how I attempted to cope with the wait; tempering my dream of attending a university of my choice, and getting used to the idea of attending a second-choice. It may sound pessimistic, but in the event that I'm rejected, the rejection won't hit too hard and will be buffered.

Everybody is different however; some can build their expectations and be okay with the disappointment; that's not it in my case...just like a card tower, if it's built too high, it might come down in a very catastrophic way.

EG...I agree with you in that I empathize and sympathize with how you feel. You are trying to protect yourself emotionally...I have done that. But I try to force myself to dare to dream because only good things can happen when you believe it can happen to you..right?

Being older than most of the people here I have the benefit of experience to help me appreciate when things don't go my way that it does not signal my ruination. By that same token I have less time to waste so that applies a different kind of pressure to my goals.

I don't think you are pessimistic bud, I just think you don't want to suffer debilitating disappointment. I always tell people I hope for the best, but expect the worst...I am not sure how healthy that way of thinking is though.

Ah well...for now, let's just all hope that our hard work has paid off in the ways we want it to.

People..but will my weakness in math screw up my chances?

It is arguable they look at the whole package..so while they may see a weakness in math, your obvious talent in history may persuade them to accept you...bottom line is, we don't know...in fact, not even an adcom could answer that question until they had your app in hand.
