I'm in my first year in cc and I've used assist.org to pick which classes I needed to take. The problem is my cc does not have a Data Structures I class. Assuming I manage to pull a good gpa (3.8+), would I still have a decent chance of transferring?

Not taking a course, provided your CCC does NOT offer it, wil NOT hurt your chances for admission. And yes if you have a GPA in the 3.8 ballpark and maintain it that way, you should have a fairly good shot at getting in. Remember GPA is an important component in the selection process, but not the only thing they use! I’ve known some 4.0s that had completed most of their pre-reqs that got rejected from Berkeley and UCLA (no clue how that happened)

And FYI, Data structures is not a “required” course for Berkeley. it is only a “recommended” course for EECS. As far as UCLA, it is a purely optional course for the EE major, and I don’t believe will have any negative impact whatsoever.

My school offers it, but I’m not gonna be able to take it, thanks to the awesome (sarcasm) counselor’s advice at my CCC. It shouldn’t hurt you.
