Ucla Extension classes: 2 questions

Can i take a class during the summer here to satisfy a major prerequisite if i'm hoping to transfer to UCLA/ucb from a community college?

Will the classes taken from UCLA extension show up on my transcript? ( because im not sure if schools other than UCLA would not like that i'm taking a class at UCLA when applying)

Hi, I am doing the same thing for UCB. The only way it would hurt your chances is if you got bad grades in them. I’m also worried that perhaps “lower tier” UCs will reject me because they thing I am just applying to them as safeties. But I think that especially since these classes are prerequisites, it should show that you’re taking initiative and have shown a genuine interest in your major.

I’m going to take a stats class over in the summer at UCB. The preequisite class that you take will be shown up on the transcript, even if you choice a P/NP option. I’m still unsure to take it with P/NP option for my major as people at Berkeley are insanely crazy and the class is curved… (20% A’s,30% B;s,40% C’s)

As far as I know, if you are taking regular summer courses at UCLA, it’s through Summer Sessions, not through Extension. Your transcripts will be on a regular UCLA transcript, not one from UCLA Extension.

If you’re applying to UCLA as a transfer, then the course will absolutely count for a major prerequisite (assuming you’re taking the correct class). For Berkeley, you probably should contact someone over there to make sure that the UCLA course is equivalent to the course Berkeley wants.

In both cases, the grade earned at UCLA will count on your GPA if you transfer to either school (as opposed to courses from non-UC schools, which do not count towards your UC GPA once you’re a student at a UC campus)

thank you all for your great and speedy answers!
I will definitely see if I can get the class that i need next summer( I am planning to apply for fall 2014). I’m just worried if it will be difficult to get the class and how rigorous it would be.
When are you guys planning to enroll at any of the UClA/UCB?

I’m curious, why would you take the class at UCLA and not at your community college? The class at UCLA will most likely be harder and cost a lot more.

I am already enrolled in a couple UCB classes now (they have already started) and I plan to enroll in a couple extension online math classes in the fall. I’d like to take as many self paced online classes as I can by the end of fall so I can raise my GPA.

oh ok cool Shanon13

and andrewexd I’m thinking about taking the class there because none of the community colleges in my area have the prereq that i need. Also, the ones that do offer it online would be difficult for me to get because i’ll probably have a crappy registration date.
