UCLA Extension Online for Foreign Language

I need some advice..I'm currently going to UCR as a BSAD major and third-quarter level of a foreign language is required in order to graduate. I got approval to take French XL3 through UCLA's extension online for French 3 credit.

Has anyone take a foreign language class through UCLA's extension? This would save me two quarters worth of French at UCR but I haven't been in a French class since my sophomore year of high school. I'll be able to dedicate a lot of time to the course, but will is the XL3 difficult enough to the point where someone who has only had two years of French would struggle? I have a friend who is fluent in French that has offered to tutor me.

This option means graduating on time without needing to take summer classes. =_=

I go to UCR and for me, in CHASS, you need a 4th quarter (NOT a 3rd quarter) level of language to graduate. You might want to double check your facts with GROWL.

With my experience from UC Berkeley extension, the online classes are generally much more difficult, especially if you are not able to teach yourself. I thought I could teach myself, but after trying multiple classes, it is just so much more difficult. Why don’t you do Credit By Exam? Self study, then take the Credit by Exam

Yes, only third quarter level is required for SoBA students.
I already took the placement test and placed into 1. However, looking at the course syllabus it seems this extension of the French course begins with using past and future tenses…which I’ve already learned.
I’m just going to have a friend of mine who is a fluent speaker help with tutoring. I was only able to register for two classes next quarter so I’ll have the extra time to dedicate towards self-teaching. I’m sure it’s gonna be hell but in the long run it’ll save me two quarters of French and nearly $3000 in tuition.
