So it seems from past threads waves come approximately every 3 days…so maybe there will be more releases on Wednesday or Thursday? (Ok round of applause for us all dealing with the stress of waitlist limbo land! ?)
Any update for anyone?
Days and days are going by losing hope
@munchenca Lol, seems like a little bit of an overreaction. They can’t begin looking/accepting people off the waitlist until they have an idea of how many people have decided to SIR to the college. The deadline to SIR was yesterday, so we should be expecting some news in the next couple of weeks
Good afternoon guys! Not sure if this was mentioned in the thread earlier, but now that the SIR deadline has passed, where did you all decide to SIR? I chose UCSD as they also have one of the highest ranked political science programs in the country
I chose UCI!
I’m also a political science major. I chose UC Davis.
Congratulations to everyone who got accepted from the waitlist! I think the reason for some of the early acceptances during the last week of May were due to the currently available spots from previously admitted students who declined their admission offers well before the official June 1st SIR deadline. As in years past, I believe that these early waitlist acceptance waves mostly included International and OOS students so that they may have more time to submit necessary documents and housing plans. Provided that there is enough space for this academic year, instate as well as OOS/International students should officially hear back within this month and perhaps later in the summer.
Great choice! I was accepted to Davis as well but declined my offer because it’s almost 8 hours away from me. Because of this pandemic, it didn’t feel right for me to be so far from home anymore.
@uclahopeful4 Have you been going through the past UCLA transfer waitlists and looking for others who got off the waitlist as political science majors? I have been looking as far back as the 2015 transfer ucla waitlist lol. One thing that stood out to me was that even though pre-political science is one of the top 5 most popular majors, not too many people from our major reported getting off. Hopefully things play out in our favor this year.
Also guys, if anyone wants the link for the newly posted profile of admitted transfer students by major, for Fall 2019, here it its. It states the average gpa by major, amount of people who applied with that major, how many got in, etc.

Yes, I noticed the same! The thing is, UCLA accepts students from the waitlist based on any openings in whatever college (except for engineering majors: I believe those people are admitted from the waitlist directly based on their major since engineering has very high yield rates). For instance, political science is in the College of Letters and Science. Just because other Poli Sci majors have not gotten in from the waitlist in the past doesn’t mean we won’t! I think that reflects that maybe political science at UCLA is so impacted that they don’t waitlist that many political science majors to begin with; maybe the yield rate for that major is high already. However, they admit from the waitlist based on COLLEGE, not major. We still have a chance Good luck!
Hey @uclahopeful4, I think you’re referring to the Freshman waitlist in regards to getting accepted by the College of Letters and Science.
I remember reading in earlier posts and discussions that the chances of getting off the Transfer waitlist are dependent on the availability of spots in your selected major.
I think the reason why Freshman are offered admission and selected from the waitlist in the College of Letters and Science, regardless of major, has to do with the high probability of them switching majors early on.
Unlike freshman, transfers have already completed 2 years of their undergraduate career, along with the necessary prerequisites for their intended major. That’s why we’re admitted by major, since it would be unlikely for most students to switch into a vastly different one after transferring.
Regardless, I do believe that we all have a chance this year! Good luck to you and everyone else!
Hey! So the information I posted was actually from last year’s transfer thread. One user posted the following:
“The waitlist is done by the college at the university. For example, if 100 students accepted to the College of Letters and Science do not SIR, then 100 students will be offered a spot off the waitlist to that college. Although the major does play a small role, it does not impact the decisions as much.” <— That user in my opinion did undermine how much universities actually over-admit at first to meet their enrollment rates. After the SIR deadline, they seriously look at the waitlist to see who they will admit from there to meet that enrollment rate. Regardless, she and others said the same thing about how they admit based on college. I could be wrong, but those are claims made by several transfers in the past.
UCI for business admin, since SD/SB/Davis only have econ.
Hey @uclahopeful4! That may very well be the case. To be quite honest, there’s a lot of speculation regarding the waitlist process. I can not be absolutely certain, along with many others on this thread and previous ones. The best source that I found in support of my claim was from @refusetosettle #34 on this thread. “Your chances of getting off the waitlist actually does depend on your major and how many people in your major decide not to go to UCLA.” (refusetosettle #34) This user contacted admissions to inquire about the waitlist process before compiling a reply on this thread.
Anyways, it’s a highly unpredictable year in regards to everything going on right now. Regardless of both scenarios, we should remain hopeful! ?
@uclahopeful4 berkeley for cs
You’re right; honestly there’s no need to be stressing over this when we can’t truly know, especially during this pandemic. Thanks for your input!
I have committed to UW-Seattle Foster School of Business but still hoping to hear from UCLA. My major is Pre-Bus Econ so I’m not very hopeful (esp since I’m an OOS Intl transfer student) but let’s see! Good luck everyone
