UCLA Fall '20 Transfer Waitlist Thread

Sorry, if this has been asked before but does anyone know if admissions waits until the end to reject people from the waitlist? I know they’re sending acceptances now but I’m just hoping if we’re rejected we can find out before the very end lol

@lolychinta I am IS.

I didn’t put this in my original post because I was in the process of crying/sitting in shock lmao so I’ll add it here:

Accepted: Saturday June 6th @ 8:37am; received an email but I was in the habit of checking my portal every morning anyways so I didn’t see it haha
Major: Pre-Sociology
TAP: None
GPA: 4.0
Why I may have been waitlisted:
Had one major pre-req in progress (Stats)
Extracurriculars:
Associate manager at a movie theatre; english tutor at my CC; taught a children’s acting class a couple years back; included english related awards and a scholarship; volunteer work = kickstarted an annual food drive

I used almost all 7000 characters in the text box lol. When listing my spring grades, next to IP, I put what my current (unofficial) grade was next to it. In my LOCI, I stated that I would matriculate without hesitation, how/why UCLA was my dream school, how I have exemplified the “True Bruin Code” since the fall, what I would contribute to student life and LS, specific programs/clubs I would participate in updates for extracurriculars/academics since the fall. I said what I have done to help with Corona too…for future waitlisters reading this: if you have made any contributions to recent social issues at that time I’d mention it.

In my UC application I talked about how parts of my education were not traditional (homeschooled as a kid, independent study as a high schooler) and I think that this may have helped tremendously; I think anything you can include to set yourself apart is really helpful honestly.

Furthermore, before you go to a worst case scenario: I have 13 withdrawals due to mental health issues that also caused me to take an extra year in CC. I wrote about it in my UC app for the question about what the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced is, but even still I was positive I was a lost cause initially and to as a waitlister! So if they could accept THAT disaster of a story lol, I think you should keep up the faith!!

I know waiting in limbo sucks so much. Easier said than done, but do whatever you need to stay sane and positive (e.g. practice manifesting and/or gratitude, turn towards your religion if you have one, message boards like this and Reddit, talking to a mentor or counselor, etc).

Here are articles talking about why this is the luckiest year yet for waitlists across the country !! Don’t give up hope! I wish you all the very best of luck and will be sending good vibes your way!!

More people are likely to hear back tomorrow. My anxiety is real right now.

For those of us still waiting, I wish you the best of luck!

I hope you all get in!!!

ahh man I’m so nervous :frowning: hopefully the odds are in our favor

I GOT IN! I got the email at 5:56 am PST 6/10/20. I had a dream that I got off the waitlist and when I woke up I was so disappointed it wasn’t real, but then I checked my phone and there it was!

I didn’t fill up all anywhere close to the max 7,000 words for my LOCI. I probably wrote maybe 10 sentences about why going to UCLA would benefit me and my major- talking about how I’d be going from a small high school, and a community college to a big university. I went to Pasadena City College, and we didn’t have TAP for UCLA so I’m not sure what that is. I was getting worried about being on this thread because of everyone’s high GPA and loads of extracurriculars, but anything can happen! Don’t stress out about it, I’ve been stressing since the beginning of June but I finally decided that I shouldn’t stress about something that I can’t control.

I hope all of you hear back soon

Major: Pre-Sociology

Hey all I just got accepted this morning for MIMG! I’m transferring from a CSU with a 3.75 (3.73 after spring semester) and the only thing I included in my statement was an update on my grades. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted and I really believe you all have a chance
