Ucla fall 2018 transfer - philosophy

So I’ve decided to switch majors to philosophy. Here are my stats

Overall gpa: 3.09
Assist-certified gpa: 3.22
Major gpa: 3.5

I’m worried that my overall gpa (which includes non-UC transferable courses) will lead to my rejection. What do you guys think my chances are?

After fall my overall will be a 3.28, and my assist certified gpa will be 3.41.

My major gpa will remain a 3.5 because I’m taking my last philosophy course in the spring.

Does UCLA consider your overall gpa as well?
When do UC’s start reviewing applications? Is it until they have your fall grades?

I think it goes without say that I’m not an admissions officer and even if I was, this would not be enough information for me to make a decision. I think your chances are ok, but not very good. Statistically, you fall below the 25th percentile of admits according to 2016 numbers, but I’m sure you probably already knew that. This isn’t a death sentence because, after all, a quarter of the other admits also fell below this line. Though, it is expected that 2018 transfers will have more competitive GPAs than their 2016 counterparts. For you, strong ECs and essays look to be the ticket in. Also, this assumes you have completed almost all of your major prep. If not, I would say your chances are fairly low.

Thank you! I had gone to see my counselor with these questions but he did not really help. I will be finished with igetc and my final major prep philo class by spring 2018. Hopefully, I’ll have that small chance for admission.

You’re reply definitely helped clear some questions I had.
