philosophy major who wants to transfer to UCLA....I have a question...

Hi,

I intend to apply to UCLA and some other UCs and Cal states in fall of 2013. I'm doing pretty well at my school: I'm in a TAP program and I currently have a 3.9 gpa. But I think I'm going to start slipping in the classes for my major...

I've already taken one philosophy class and I earned an A in it. I'm taking two more philosophy classes this semester and I have to take a logic class in Fall to satisfy UCLA's philosophy major requirements...

I think that I'll get two B's in my philosophy classes this semester. If I get two B's this semester and I get an A in the logic class that I'll take in Fall, I'll have two B's and two A's in my major classes. There's also the possibility that I'll only get a B in my logic class, which will mean that I'll have one A three B's in my major classes...

UCLA is obviously a pretty difficult school to get in to, so I was wondering if this might put me at a disadvantage with other philosophy majors who are applying. I know it seems like a dumb question, but this is kind of bothering me.

Thanks in advance!

Fortunately, philosophy is not an impacted major at UCLA and the average admitted GPA was 3.56 for Fall 2012. As long as you keep your overall GPA up you should be fine, especially since TAP will also boost your chances.

The philosophy major at UCLA is ridiculously easy to transfer into. As the previous poster stated, it is not impacted so there is a lot of flexibility when it comes to they range of GPAs they admit.
My best friend got in with a 3.49 from Santa Monica College, but he got "A"s in all of the pre-req classes. One of his philosophy teachers told him that UCLA Philosophy looks to see how well transfer students did in symbolic logic (a pre-req) to gauge how well they will do at UCLA.
