Urgent question. I met all of the TAP requirements and submitted the form to my cc and all of that, but I never wrote anything about it or checked off any boxes on the actual UC application. Is that a problem?? did I miss something???
I have a very weird situation as I have some college work taken outside the US (some of which the grades are I’m not proud of) and to make things more complicated, they are Trimester units. So I’m not sure sure how those things will factor out in my application.
But my US College work stats is as follows
Major: Art (portfolio required)
GPA: 3.47
AA: Yes, Art
CSU/IGET-C: Complete 60 units +4 UC Transferrable
Golden 4: BBBB
Other Schools Applied To: UCLA, UCI, CSULB, CSUF and SDSU
Major: Computer engineering
CCC: Sierra College (also did classes at other colleges to complete the requirements)
GPA: 3.8
TAP: not offered by my school and is not valid for engineering anyway
Gender: Female
pre-req: finishing at spring 2019
IGETC: not doing since is not recommended for engineering
School applied: UCB, UCLA and UCD(TAG to Davis)
Extracurriculars: 10 hours a week at a internship in a local start up company, worked as a math tutor 10 hours a week, member of the robotics club and PTK, summer volunteer program teaching art to kids in an undeserved community.
Is valid to comment that I am an immigrant who moved to America 2 years ago from Brazil.
How hard are the two classes you have to take before you can declare your major as Business Economics at UCLA if you transfer for biz econ?
@neilsola Do we need to take those two classes in the summer or can we take them in the fall semester? I’m assuming those classes would be challenging due to the noted difference in rigor between the UC’s and community colleges.
@GoodAfternoonSir on their site: “Transfer students can apply at the beginning of Winter, Spring or Summer after transferring to UCLA and successfully completing the pre-major”
After transferring so fall
and also they are on quarter system so winter quarter, no fall
@halpmehxd They’ll know you’re in TAP once you submit the TAP certification form with your counselor. There was a a box on the application where you check off if you’re in the program, but I don’t think it should be a problem if they receive the certification form all TAP students are supposed to submit by March. Although call them just in case. Either way, you should be fine
@halpmehxd I agree! When I reviewed my application there was a part that said, “California Community College Transfer Admission Programs: None selected” but I did not see an option to check off to begin with.
Has anyone else not gotten an email about creating a portal?
@coolcat212 all my daughter has received is an email on December 8 thanking her for applying. It contained a link to check application status. But nothing about setting up a portal.
@coolcat212 I haven’t gotten an email about a portal, but I have got one about checking the status of my application where I enter my UC ID.
Does having more units completed give you an edge over those who may have less? By the time Spring semester is over I will only have 62 units completed.
@8CLAP4SUP no, as long as you have the required courses completed. The main way it helps is if there are a slew of courses you might not need to transfer, but will need to graduate. By taking them at a CCC you can thin the herd, possibly saving an extra UC term + tuition.
@Ohm888 Thank you!
CCC
Major: Political Science (pre)
GPA: 4.0
PREREQ: done, one class in spring 2019 though
IGETC: done
TAP: not offered
EC: 20 hr a week volunteer position, 2 jobs at a time (one related to school and one related to politics), working on finding an internship for Spring 2019
On assist.org, it mentions that UCLA strongly prefers that psychology majors take Statistics to fulfill the Quantitative Reasoning requirement. I got a 3 on my AP Statistics exam, which they accept. But does anyone know if they will view this negatively since the score is relatively low for a subject that is “strongly preferred” (I passed Calc with an A btw, which also fulfills the requirement).
3, 4, 5, they won’t take that into account in terms of what you’re asking. At least that’s what they say.
