Hi guys, I’m an applicant from CCC(Pasadena City College + multiple other colleges)
Can anyone advise me on whether I should change my major at this point or not?

So I applied to UCLA as a chem major, but I changed my mind into engineering. So I wanna change my major to chemical engineering (UCLA lets applicants change their major until 1/31).

I have a 4.0 GPA and I think I can rush all those engineering pre-reqs by spring (physics 2, physics 3, o chem 2, and one programming course left) But I might not be able to take the programming course so I may as well end up not finishing one prereq.

But the thing is that on the application essay I wrote about chemistry major and not chemical engineering. Would this affect my acceptance? I heard engineering school doesn’t really look at the essay as long as GPA and pre-reqs are good but I’m not quite sure. Does anyone know about this?

Another thing I’m concerned about is that I’m gonna be taking two core physics classes all on the last term. I heard that UCLA prioritizes those who took more pre-reqs by the fall rather than spring.

And can anyone advise me whether I should change my major or not? DO you think I have a good chance if I apply as a chemical engineering major? I only have like a few days left to change so I am desperate.

These are the course works I’ve taken(for reference)

CCC
Major: Psychology
GPA: 4.0
Prereq: done
IGETC: done
TAP: yes
EC: I volunteer at a non profit, and I am a member of the psychology club on campus

Any Global Studies Majors in this mix? I would love to compare stats and stuff

Hey guys, I’m currently at UCLA, and I haven’t been on this site in awhile and would like to post my stats to provide some information/context
my major: Psychology
GPA:4.0
EC: nothing but work
PREREQS: I only had 3/5 done by the time TAU was finished.
No TAP
A lot of people told me I wasn’t going to get in because of my prereq situation, as UCLA is obviously very strict about prereqs and psych is one of the most impacted majors here. I was taking 2 prereqs over the spring semester (philosophy and chemistry) and I only had 2 done by the time I submitted my application. But luckily my school had winter intersession and I had my final grades for statistics before the TAU deadline (I was very fortunate to have that).
anyways, to the psych majors on this forum who are behind on prereqs, don’t be too down on yourself. I know on UCLA’s website it specifically lists psych as one of the majors where prereq completion by fall is “strongly recommended” but I’m obviously proof that you can still get in even if you’re behind!

UCLA is not and will never be my first choice, but my professors suggested I apply just because my essays were strong.
Major: English. but applied for American Literature and Culture- Alternative Spanish
CCC Transfer
GPA: 3.3 after TAU
TAG: UCSB
Applied to: UCSB, UCR, UCI, SDSU, CSUSM, CP SLO, CPP
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Independent/Dependent: Independent according to financial aid
IGETC and Pre-reqs: All completed
Extracurriculars: I’ve worked since graduating high school, I currently work 3 jobs, I work at a middle school tutoring students in AVID, I work 2 retail jobs, I also have a side gig tutoring a student who recently moved from Mexico so I’m teaching him English, I was diagnosed with cancer at 20, so my essays have an emphasis on how I overcame this obstacle despite having to fail some classes.

i’d literally pay to know my decision early, this wait is killing me!!

@bksyazd hey! I’m not global studies but I’m European studies. Close enough? I’d be interested in sharing stats. Your major prep seems more demanding but has a similar structure. Get back to me! I feel like we’re scarce on these boards hahah I-)

@vrios95 wow, best of luck!

@HeyItsNick i’m not that anxious yet but once its april i know my emotions will be everywhere!

@HeyItsNick what other schools are you waiting to hear back from?

@8CLAP4SUP Haha thanks, honestly I don’t necessarily care if I’m admitted or not. Its more-so to have bragging rights, but it’s ok

@throwaway97385 Woah hah hoh chill babe. I see you made an account specifically to rant hahaha. I kinda agree with you but at the same time maybe she gets in and changes her mind? idk

I wrote on my personal statement that it would be with pride and an honor should I be able to attend and get admitted by UCLA

@sugarcane1 UCSD, UCSB, UCB, and USC. It’s going to be a stressful wait!! How about you?

bump

@HeyItsNick my daughter didn’t want to deal with the USC thing again after last year. She has applied to UCLA, Cal, Davis, UCSD, Santa Cruz, and tagged UCSB. Also has applied to SDSU, CSULB, Cal Poly SLO and Chico . She has maintained the 4.0 she applied to USC with last year and high hopes of better outcome this time around.?

Only got emails from UCI and UCD so far

@sugarcane1 I almost didn’t apply to USC but decided to like right before the deadline. I applied to different majors this time and my financial situation has changed so I’m hoping it may go a little different this year.

I also tagged UCSB but I spent my first year at a private 4 year so I am not entirely sure if my math will meet their requirements so that’s making me anxious. We shall learn soon though, it’s almost the middle of Feb which is crazy.

Does it really matter? I did not apply to UCD, but it seems like all my friends who applied to UCD got that email as well… but I have not got any email from UCI, where I applied to… I only got an email from UCLA regarding financial aid guide.
