UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Can someone add me to the UCLA groupchat? Just send me a message if you can and I’ll drop the @ in messages, thank you

How did you post the grade when you were attending in 2010-2012??

I got rejected for Sociology

Transfer from 2 year CC
GPA: 3.6
EC: decent
Essays: Well written imo

Accepted: UCI, UCSD. UCSB, UCR, CSUF, CPP

Congrats to everyone who got admitted!!!

Now I understand what you’re saying.

Same thing happened to me that I couldn’t post my grades in the UC application that were taken years ago. I called the UC system representative, spoke to a supervisor & they told me to post them in the year just prior to my current return to college even though they were not taken during that year/semester that I listed them. Then the UC representative told me to write a note in the “Additional Comments” box that there is a system error preventing me from listing my courses taken from years ago & my courses actually taken in xxxx year have been listed on my UC application under xxxx year.

It worked cuz I’ve been accepted to UCLA, Davis, Santa Barbara, & Riverside. I didn’t have this error on the CSU application.

Those grades from were terrible from that 1st round in college.

Rejected
Computer Science

4.0 (Sortof)
Academic renewal and some 'F’s from way back when including a C which may or may not be counted. 80 units of straight A’s however.

All pre-reqs (for both CS and CSE) and IGETC

EC’s:
Technical Lead Google Developer Student Club
Programming and writing apps on my own
A previous business owner in an unrelated field

Essays, I wrote them without help so not sure how I’d score them. I pushed my kids and family as well as being an old guy (35) returning to college to pursue a passion that made me quit my previous career.

Accepted: UCB (EECS) , UCSD (CS)
Rejected: UCLA (CS)

Not sure where I went wrong with UCLA given I opened the other two acceptances first it was kind of a let down to not even get waitlisted. I had already Sir to UCB which may have impacted the decision or it could just all be a crap shoot. Did I get lucky at UCB and UCSD or unlucky at UCLA?

Good luck to everyone including future lurkers.

Go Bruins !

Oh, I made it wrong here. My IGETC still in progress, but will finish end of Spring. I think it would not hurt you when you applied UC, just finish by end of Spring, that will be okay…
Hope this info can help.

Daughter ACCEPTED!
Comparative Literature
SCC
TAP
IGETC
4.0 GPA major
3.85 GPA overall
Accepted: UCSB (pre-Comm) UCSD (Comm)

Thanks for the journey, started following this site when she was in HS. Very helpful in communicating information to her that allowed us to trust the CCC path, save money and make dreams come true.
Congratulations to everybody who got accepted to UCLA and elsewhere. To those who weren’t, as previous posters have said, it won’t define you and ultimately you will find your place and make your mark in this world. I know it hurts and my thoughts are with you.

It makes sense, but do you think it is going to be okay I let them know now or it will be risky to get denied. Actually, the courses are all non-transferable in the year that I attended before.

Accepted for Sociology,
Also got into Cal, Davis, and UCSD… waiting on USC ( my number 1), but committed to UCLA just in case I don’t get in.

Yeah if there are Instagram groups for admitted students I’m down to be added @aidan.w.t

Either option you take runs the risk of getting rescinded. You should take the better of 2 bad options.

Option #1 - Not telling them so you don’t bring attention to it & get rescinded cuz your transcripts don’t match what your application says. They are going to go over our official transcripts with a fine-tooth comb & will find it & wonder why you didn’t report it. Then they will see your bad grades & say, Aaahhh, now we know why he left this part out.

Option #2 - Send an email to admissions telling them there is a UC system error in applications when trying to enter courses from several years ago. You were not allowed to submit your application with them so you had to leave them off in order to submit. At least this option, you have a chance to explain why you left them out instead of them finding the courses & coming up with their own reason without your input. You need to control this narrative; Not them.

Piggyback off my response below to formulate your own response and definitely mention that the courses are not UC transferable to minimize the blow. Tell them that UC application representatives are aware of this error & are unable to fix their application error as of this date.

I went back to my UC application & copied & pasted what I wrote:
“I was advised by UC Application representatives to enter my college courses from year xxxx into the xxxx semesters due to the length of time that has transpired which was causing an error message on the application system.”

FYI - The less you say, the better off you will be. Don’t talk them into rescinding yourself

ACCEPTED!!!

Psychology BA
GPA 3.67

Had exemplary essays which I think is what pushed me through since my GPA for their psych is beneath their bottom 25th percentile.

Accepted: UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCSB, UC Davis
Waitlisted: UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz

Hey everyone!

Just a quick update with my friend. She just went onto her admissions portal directly and reported a change stating she’ll be taking that language course in the summer emphasizing that it’s the last course needed for IGETC and that everything else is completed otherwise. She reiterated how she’s only taking it because it’s the last requirement, and that it is infact just a language other an English course. I’ll keep all of you updated with how the response to that goes! Hoping for the best, and anyone curious can refer back to this for reference incase they fall into a similar situation in the future.

Aside from that, thank you to all of the people who responded!

Tell your friend to enroll in one summer class, and then update that class in the Portal (i.e., SUMMER2020 ASL1) besides explaining why / how/ whatever, so they can follow up easily your case.

@jasojfi2o3 you ALWAYS want to tell them right away of any discrepancy. Leaving an entire semester out with not so hot grades could be interpreted the wrong way. They are going to wonder why you didn’t reach out instantly and ask about it or list them in the additional comments. Contact them now and explain the application glitch. The courses were from a long time ago so that is good news as the UCs put less weight on old grades. Mistakes happen. DO NOT WAIT for them to find it on their own. That never sits well and is a recipe for a rescind.

Does anyone know about what their deferral policy is? I know Davis made one but was unsure about UCLA
