UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Yeah I haven’t found one either. Someone just make a group soooon.

For future lurkers:
ACCEPTED 3.93 PRE-COGNITIVE SCIENCE
6 Pre-Reqs done (Minimum of 5 needed for the major)

EC:
Carried a job throughout community college (2 years)
Licensed Pilot
Volunteer Coach
Involved in Leadership at my Community College
Dean’s List
I put that I was Student Body President my senior year of high school, would not recommend putting a ton of high school accomplishments though

Essays:
For the major essay, I discussed how I went above in my major prep classes and how fascinated I was with cog sci.

I also wrote about how I expressed my creativeness through cooking, flying for the “greatest skill” prompt, and being resilient for the “What makes you a strong candidate” essay.

Applied: UCSD, UCI, UCLA, UCD, UCSB, UCB, UCD
Accepted: all
I also applied to USC for Fall 2019 as a one year transfer and got in… did not end up going

Good luck to everyone, it has been such a trip.
Any question please PM me!!!

Yes I already sent email and I will also call them next week. Hopefully they understand me since UCLA is my dream school. Thank you

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I actually went back and checked and I only had one class in progress for my last term. Do you think just one class could have been a deal breaker for me?

I feel exactly the same way as you. I got into UCSD, UCSB, UCD, and UCI and I truly only ever considered those cuz I thought UCLA was out of reach since my GPA for Psych, is in like the bottom tenth percentile. Which other ones are you weighing?

Do a lot of transfers live on campus? I initially planned on living off campus or a university apartment but I’m considering living in one of the on campus resident halls. But idk if a lot of transfers go that route. Lmk thanks

@econgal1234 one class left I would think would be okay but it’s a selective major and assuming it’s Econ (not Biz Econ) there are only four classes, right? You should call and ask. We can all speculate but at the end of the day we have no idea. It simply might be a situation involving numbers. Just too many high-qualifying applicants.

Yeah it’s common for transfers to live on campus their first year! It’s a way to get the dorm experience and life on campus. On the housing application you can chose to be part of the transfer LLC if you’re interested.

Major: Pre-Mathematics
GPA: 3.7
TAP: no
IGETC: not complete
Major prep: completed
Accepted into: UCLA, UC Irvine, UCSB, UCSD
Rejected from: UC Berkeley(because I didn’t finish my major prep)

My advice would be to really focus on your essays. GPA isn’t everything and strong essays can easily negate a lackluster GPA (Within reason of course).

I like what @flygaaaaaaal did and want to let future lurkers know as well.
Keep in mind I am a nontraditional and had years in a career before going back to school so my essays and life experiences have been well rounded

ACCEPTED into Psychology BA
GPA - 3.67 (4.0 in all classes in last 3 years at CC including medical school prereqs) All major prereqs done and 4.0 in those
IGETC: Completed

-Volunteer basketball coach and weight and conditioning coach for water polo team

-Experience as a logistics manager prior to returning to school

Essays:
These are what got me into UCLA. Their 25th percentile for psychology last year is a 3.79…mine is a 3.67 all around. I am an English tutor and have always had a gift for writing and I was able to write about my experiences as a clinical wilderness guide and love for others (animals and humans) in an eloquent way that depicted my desire to be a physician and to use psychology as the foundation on which to build that dream.

Applied: UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCSC, UCD, and SDSU
Accepted: UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCD, and SDSU
Waitlisted: UCSC and UC Berkeley
Rejected: None

NOTE: If anyone ever wants some help with their essays in the coming years, just DM me on here, and I’ll make sure to check in the coming application cycles and help ya out.

I too am an English transfer deciding between UCLA and UCB (as well as USC for narrative studies but their decision won’t come until June). Need to do some research to see what the best fit for me would be and which school is best connected. Side note, has the official UCLA admit facebook page been created yet?

Did anyone else submit their SIR and not have to pay the $250 deposit??

Me!! it was waived

omg that’s good to know!! I was panicking thinking it didn’t approve it lol

Hi! Congrats to everyone get into UCLA.

I am a newly admitted student too, and have a question about the College Honor Program. Does anyone know should a transfer student join this program right away for the first quarter in UCLA (I assume the Honor program will be harder than normal)? Are there any perks of participating in this program?

Does anyone here understand the difference between “off campus residence” and “commuter residence” as listed on the financial aid award letter for UCLA? Im looking to get my own apartment off campus not affiliated with UCLA and don’t know if this is commuter or off campus residence?

On Campus (residence halls, Hilgard Houses)
Off Campus (apartment, fraternity/sorority, University apartments)
Commuter (living with a parent or a relative who is not a spouse)

Hi @leafygreens @collegeTRANSF3R @gabyyylopez3 ! How did UCLA tell you that you are Regents Transfer? Have you submitted any scholarship applications?

@freetudo

Are you TAP certified?

Hope this helps! I was searching for information about enrollment and came across this

I was admitted but I haven’t received any emails from admissions or the school, aside from the financial aid letter alert. Has anyone else? I mostly want to know if there’s a virtual info session or something happening.
