I’ve been lurking on here since I was senior in high school, after I got rejected from this very institution. Figured I’d post my stats now since I know they can potentially help someone who is hopeful like I was once was.
Major: Pre-Political Science
GPA: 3.72 (at time of submission)
TAP: Nope
IGETC: Will be completed this Spring
Major Prep: Two Courses currently In Progress
Applied To: UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA
Accepted To: All
ECs: Pretty strong, all related to major as well.
Essays: Did them on my own… I guess they got the job done. Let’s say, 8/10?
Coming from someone who was initially rejected take it from me, these decisions DO NOT define you, and that goes for the admitted students as well. People will often play the “accepting and supportive” role online, but can be incredibly egocentric. For the students who weren’t admitted, they truly missed out on a great individual who will thrive and uplift another institution. You must believe that and push forward. Congrats to those who were admitted of course; but to those who weren’t as well since you too have endured a long and stressful process. In fact, the non-admitted students represent the strength to push forward after being knocked down and power through after being told that you’re “not on the same level”. It truly messed with my mental state after I wasn’t admitted, so I hope my words reach the ears of someone who was in my position. We are all great students, admitted or not. Stay resilient everyone, and like Aaliyah once said: “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again, try again”.
I had already posted that I had gotten accepted earlier but i had forgot to mention that I had gone to a CSU my first year ! I went from a CSU my first year to a CC my second year and I got accepted to UCLA Just wanted to put it out there just in case someone in the future also decided to transfer from their CSU !
hi guys idk if anyone could really answer this but it says “maintain ur grade point average” but then also states complete your classes with a c or better… I’m taking 5 classes rn and have a low A in 2 of them so I’m kind of stressing out if my gpa ends up dropping a bit if they’d revoke my acceptance. Any comments help:)
@Bubonica actually one-year transfers this year did very well! If you look at the “UC 1 YEAR TRANSFERS FALL 2020” thread, most of us got into our top schools. I was missing a pre-req for UCLA but still got in, while for Cal I had everything done by Spring but was rejected. Folks who want to try and do this moving forward should not be discouraged as it can be done!
I didn’t do TAP so I’m really not sure what I’m waitlisted as. Do you think contacting an admissions officer would help? I’m not too keen on bugging them since they’re probably overflowing with questions from other applicants.
Hi everyone! Do you guys know if we have to tell UCLA if we decide to take a class on a pass/no pass basis? I am taking a class this semester already as pass/no pass but want to take one more class on a pass/no pass basis (both are not major reqs, I took them just to fill 60 units).
Hello all. I, like (apparently) a great many other accepted UCLA transfers in the past, am worried about the “report any significant drop in GPA” part of the admission contract. I am here to ask for anyone’s opinion on the matter. My community college cumulative GPA so far is 4.0. I am only taking two classes for this semester (Spring 2020), and I am sure I will get an A in one, but I may get a B in the other. Is this something to be worried about? Would I have to report this as a “significant drop”?
omg i think you are totally fine lol i think by significant drop they mean if you are failing classes and it’s going to bring your gpa down a lot. but a B will not cause a severe change in ur gpa!! no need to worry
i think you should be fine. they are accepting p/np, just not for major prep. i am unsure of IGETC tho. i would take a look at this if i were you just to confirm!!
If you didn’t do TAP I don’t think they even consider you for your alternate major, so you would be waitlisted for your primary. But if you’re really worried about it you can reach out to admissions.
Yes. I found mine on: https://sa.ucla.edu/fao/epalshopping/
Scrolled down, clicked ‘continue,’ and it showed a breakdown of estimated financial aid (grants, loans and/or net price).
UCLA released some. The scholarship page says they are continuing to award scholarships up to the end of August.
Hello, are there any College of Letters and Sciences majors here?
As you may know, the College of Letters and Sciences requires proficiency in a foreign language as a graduation requirement. I noticed that the UCLA general catalog says this for the College:
“Transfer students with 90 or more units who have completed the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) will have satisfied the foreign language and reciprocity requirements”
Now, I will have my IGETC completed by the end of this semester and will have my foreign language satisfied by two years’ worth of foreign language in high school.
Does this satisfy the college’s foreign language graduation requirement?
The whole process is quite confusing. I want to email UCLA but does anyone know which office I should contact?
Wow this thread really blew up these past few days
Accepted
Major: Chemistry, in College of Letters and Science
GPA: 3.73
IGETC Completed, all major prereq’s + recommended courses either completed or in-progress this semester. Gradewise I received 4 B’s, rest are A’s. 17-20 units a semester.
EC’s: College STEM Tutor, volunteer science camp counselor, high school internship with surgeon, various writing awards, two part-time entry-level jobs (one in high school, the other in college).
If any future applicants are curious, I got the alumni transfer scholarship email.
If there are any chem majors or pre-meds at ucla reading this, I’d love to talk about your experience there. Trying to decide between cal and la and would like some insight.
I would really recommend joining the UCLA Transfer Students Facebook group, I think you’ll find much more success getting academic/scholarship questions answered there. I posted a question late last night and already have around 20 responses from former or current transfer students. I still don’t know how to post links on here without getting flagged but it should be easy to find.
