@davidls I was supposed to apply as a math of computation major but i withdrew from physics last semester. I decided to apply as data theory because it has less major requirements, which i thought would increase my chances by a little. I finished stats, c++, calc 1 and calc 2. Currently taking multi variable and lin alg rn. I think taking diff eq would help but since its data theory, not taking it wouldn’t hurt i guess since its not even part of the major.
@hikashi I had AP credit for calc BC and calc AB so skipped to multi. That should be OK right?
@Ohm888 AP credit should be able to fulfill Calc 1/Calc 2 math requirements at UCLA, right?
@davidls did you get a 5 on calc bc? I remember last year, someone tried to tag uci for cs. While his cc accepted a 3 on calc ab and let him skip calc 1, uci didnt accept the 3 and he got his tag denied. For ucla, you must take calc 2 UNLESS you got a 5 on calc bc. If you did, all is well.
@hikashi ya I got a 5 on Calc BC and Calc AB.
@davidls Data theory isn’t required for my major but I’ve taken both courses for Electrical Engineering
i said i would take it in the summer, do u think that helps my chances a bit?
@davidls I believe they dont take courses that you take over the summer into consideration for admission other than the fact that you are trying to complete requirements. But if you take it over the summer you can save yourself from taking it after you transfer it can’t hurt!
@hikashi I got a 4 on Calc BC and I skipped Calc 1 and 2. My counselors reassured me that I should be fine since my score would have waived these two classes based on my CC’s standards. I did TAG to UCI and now I’m worried should I be doing something about this?
@hoshizora oh dang. your tag for uci will br fine since a 4 on BC will skip calc 2 and 1. For ucla, you only get credit for calc 1. They need a 5 on BC for credit for calc 2. So if your major requires calc 2, then yikes. Hopefully they let it slide idk.
@hikashi don’t think my GPA is high enough for UCLA anyway, but if I do, will I just have to take Calc 2 at UCLA again or is there a different kind of penalty? Should I contact admissions about it?
I wasn’t too great at the Calc 2 portion of Calc BC so I’m hoping I won’t have to take it again…
@davidls you can look here then at your major or college and see if their rules are different:

@Ohm888 what happens if the rules are different?
I applied to UCLA as a math major. My ccc let me skip calc 1 and 2 since I got a 4 on the ap calc bc exam. Now I’m worried about getting rejected.
@atheist123 If your other grades are good, especially calc 3, differentials and linear I think you will be fine. dont worry too much about it
Define good I got an A in all except Linear Algebra where I got a B ;-;
I just found out UCLA cancelled Summer session A. Idk if this means TSP will be cancelled as well and if that’s the case this sucks because it really helps us transfers acclimate to the academic rigors of UCLA. I emailed them asking if it was true.
@brunodiaz , what is TSP?
@hoshizora if you get in, I think youll have to take calc 2 there since you dont have credit for it.
@hikashi I got a 5 on Calc BC, so I think I should be good.
@atheist123 I wish cc counselors did their research more. Youll get calc 1 credit at ucla since you got a 4 on calc BC but not calc 2. For a math major, thats VERY important. Make sure you contact admissions asap to let them know what happens. Hopefully, they let it slide and make u retake calc 2 in the summer or something, but its gonna be out of sequence so idk about that.
@davidls oh i thought you got a 4. A 5 would do the job
