UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

does anyone know what’s the exact date of the decisions this year? UC Berkeley mentioned on their portal they will release decisions on April 17th, are UCLA decisions coming out on the same day?

@davidls i have recently discovered that the site you are linking to is not always up to date, and while it might say an AP score won’t qualify, it actually will qualify if you reach out to the dept/college.

I think UCLA is supposed to come out on April 24th!

@schoolgirl731 Thanks! Is it somewhere on the portal or just a guess based on last year releases?

Based on last year

Is anyone applying for nursing?

Hi guys idk how much info any of you would have on this in particular but I’m in my first year at a CC. I took a bunch of AP’s in high school and they counted towards a bunch of IGETC stuff so I had half my units done going into fall 2019. I figured I might as well apply to the UC’s since I would be meeting the IGETC and unit requirements by spring 2020. I took 15 units in the fall and 15ish more units this semester so I’ll be done with everything by the end of this semester. I was wondering if anyone else is a first year transfer student as well/ if anyone knows more info on the stats of first year transfer students acceptance rates. This is a little late I know lol.

Fall 2019 GPA: 4.0
TAG: Did not meet requirements for it in the Fall 2019
IGETC: completed by the end of Spring Semester
Pre-reqs: Completed
Major: first choice Political Science, second choice History
Ecs: Not much but I work as a full time manager at Nike
Schools applied to: UCSB, UCLA
I figured that these schools are my top, so if I don’t get in this year, I can TAG tot UCSB next year.

@aamandataylor hey! There are a few us just like you (including me!) who are applying after one year. Consider posting your stats in the thread I created for 1 year transfers. We can see where all of us get in after a few weeks! I too had lots of AP credit coming in, and I took a lot of units in the fall and spring as well. I think we have a solid shot with a good GPA, but obviously not as good if we had stayed another year and finished pre-reqs before applying instead of doing them in this Spring. Let’s see what happens!

@fearthfihr I just hope we don’t get penalized for finishing up our prereqs this spring.

@atheist123 , I don’t see how you would be penalized for having required courses in progress…many transfer students are in the same boat regardless of how many years they’ve been there. My son who is in his THIRD year at CC (due to a huge volume of required and recommended courses) is still finishing required and IGETC courses this semester.

@atheist123 yeah i doubt we get penalized. My thinking is that there are a lot of students who finish their pre-reqs in the Spring, so we are no different. Also, if we have a competitive GPA for our major and solid application, theres no reason for us to be treated differently. If we think about it logically, it makes no sense from an admissions standpoint to make us stay another year just so they can see our grades this Spring and waste a whole year for us. So, I think we will be just fine, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough!

Does anyone know how many days/weeks it takes for your financial aid package to show up in your portal after you get accepted? Kinda nervous if its more than a week bc I need to let CPSLO know if I want to accept their offer or not by May 1 and I want to see which school gives a better financial aid package before I enroll lol.

At least a week and UCLA doesn’t get back to you until late April

@bean01262020 , I would contact SLO and find out if their sticking to that deadline. A lot of schools are pushing it out. I looked online and couldn’t find any info on it, but I’d call if I were you.

I don’t believe the CSUs have pushed back the decision deadline bc it still lists the date to SIR by as May 1st on the two CSU portals I have ^

Cal Poly Pomona has

Hello everyone!! Lots of anticipation this month as we wait for decisions. I was wondering if anyone had any input in regards to my chances of getting in for fall 2020 as as transfer?

Stats:
Major: Spanish and Linguistics
UC GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
Major Prep: Two classes in progress
IGETC: Done
Extra: Honors Program (TAP), did a research conference, club secretary, peer mentor

I am a bit concerned with the fact that I have two major prep classes in progress this semester. Basically, my major requirements are one year of college level classes in the language (PREFERRED TWO YEARS) OR at least one year of a high school course conducted in that language, one introductory linguistics course, and one Spanish or Spanish American Civilization course. To make this easier to understand, I’ll organize what I took what semester.

High school: 4 years of Spanish including AP Spanish 4 in which I received a 5 on the exam.
Fall 2018: No major classes (thought that because of my AP score I did not need to take classes at my college since the highest level was Intermediate II)
Spring 2019: Linguistic anthropology, the closest my school could get to a linguistics class.
Fall 2019: Spanish M03 (Intermediate I) and Spanish Civilization (taken at another college because my home college does not offer any civilization courses)
Spring 2020: Spanish M04 (Intermediate II) and an introductory Linguistics course (taken again at another college because my home college does not offer a linguistics course)

So, I am worried that:

  1. My one year of college level Spanish is not yet completed
  2. Linguistics, a major prep course, is not yet completed
  3. I did not take two years of college level Spanish

However, admissions officers will see that I got a 5 on the AP Exam and that I went out on a limb to take important classes at another school since my school didn’t offer them. In addition to these courses I have taken classes like Intercultural Communications and Latin American History that are relevant to my major. My counselors and UCLA representatives I’ve met with have said that they understand when CCs do not have the required courses for a major and do not penalize applicants for that. I’m hoping that the fact that I did extra work to meet the linguistics and Spanish civ requirements says a lot! I’m also aware this is not an impacted major and not as competitive.

Good luck everyone, just a few more weeks!!!

Anyone else worried about us not being able to start in the fall due to coronavirus? I’m trying not to worry but I can’t help being realistic! I just hope it doesn’t take up the whole year. I just wanna have the “college experience”

@uclahistory2020 that’s literally what i keep thinking about!! we only have 2 years there so hopefully, it’s not cut shorter

Hey I just wanted to post my own stats. I feel like I’m a longshot from getting in but still. My anthropology professor who used to teach at UCLA told me I would be a great UCLA candidate but I honestly don’t want to get my hopes up incase of rejection haha

Major: Anthropology B.A.
GPA: 3.87
IGETC: Done
TAP: No
Extracurriculars/work experience: I was a supplemental instruction leader for anthropology 104 and 102 for two semesters. I’ve been a keyholder at my job for four years. I have an AA degree in anthropology. I graduated honor’s and was on the dean’s list a few times.

My essays: Basically wrote about being the first SI leader to develop online study aids for students and that my anthro professor still uses them in class with credit given to me. I also talked about being a lesbian and writing an lgbt themed book I want to publish someday. I wrote too about being in the Wiccan faith and how I don’t let prejudices against my spiritual path stop me from being myself, etc…
