@uclahistory2020 I didn’t either. I felt like I would look like a fool if I did all that and get denied for admission later…also knowing how talented everyone else is, I just couldn’t see myself stand a chance at all.
Does anybody know if my admission will be reconsidered if I withdraw one of my classes after getting admitted?
@kylie711 several variables come into play, does your total amount of units go under 60? is the class part of your major prep? I think it may be reconsidered if its the second one but not sure they would overturn a decision. If your total units falls under 60 though that’s a huge red flag.
I only found out about alumni scholarship from that email. I got the email on March 3rd and the deadline was March 10 so I figured I wouldn’t do a good job on essays in one week anyways so ended up not applying lol. I wish I did tho
I found out about the Alumni scholarship through the email too. I applied because I had some extra time to write the essays so I just decided to do it
@kylie711 I was also thinking of dropping a class this semester and was wondering how it would affect my admissions decisions. I spoke to my counselor today (via phone) about this and she told me that you would need to contact each individual institution to see how they would feel about it, but that they are being a little more understanding due to the current situation. Do not drop a class without checking with each school beforehand! There is a chance they will take away your acceptance if you do so.
The class I was thinking of dropping is the third class in my physics series. She strongly advised me against dropping this class because my school’s order of course material may not align well with theirs, and sometimes schools will make you restart a series to ensure that you’re going to cover all the necessary material. If you’re thinking of dropping a class that’s part of a series, I would say you should do everything you can to stay in it.
Another option she said might be worth looking into is changing the grading option to Pass/No Pass. Some CCs are extending the deadline to change a grading option. It might be worth looking into it. I believe this grading option has no impact on your GPA but still allows for credit, although it does look worse than a letter grade. I hope this helps I know the transition to online classes isn’t ideal, but we’ll get through it!
@20colleges @jumpinganalytic @uclahistory2020 Did you guys get the email for the UCLA Regents potential opportunity as well?
@god1235lord yes i did, i think those who made accounts for the scholarship website got the email. i don’t think it has anything to do with getting an actual regents invite since those haven’t been released yet
@god1235lord I did. I haven’t gotten a follow up email since though
@uclahistory2020 @20colleges @god1235lord Do you guys know when they will send the emails with the actual code? Decision dates are closing in and correct me if I’m wrong but don’t they generally do it before releasing decisions?
All they said was “soon” so that could mean anytime. We just have to wait patiently for someone to get the invite.
Hey, I go by Jellybean online! If I get accepted I would be more than happy to meet some of yall. I am a second-year currently at a California community college. Here are some stats
GPA: 3.93
Credits: Finished IGETC for UCs and will have 60 units prior to transfer, and 16 of my units are Honors classes
Major: Statistics, alt: Data Theory (completed TAP)
Work experience: currently in an internship for CS programming scheduling and inventory software for my school’s Makerspace, however, I started it in February so it is not reflected on my application. Previous to that, during my first year, I worked at Starbucks, but quit April 2019 to focus on school.
Extracurriculars:
- Volunteer at VEX robotics tournaments as Judge Advisor/Referee (or did before the Stay At Home order)
- Participated in President/Student Leadership Forum
- Participated as a Peer Mentor for 1 going on two semesters.
In response to @davidls 's question, I applied for Stats, but I want to go into Data Science. I did not have an opportunity to talk to the school about the new program so I was hesitant to put it (data theory) as my first choice because I was unsure if it preps for a master’s in data science.
Hi ! I applied to UCLA as a transfer and am really hoping to get some opinions on my chances. I know it’s a really tough school but it’s my dream school so i’m really hoping to get in. I didn’t do TAP but my IGETC will be finished after this semester. I’m currently at Santa Monica College
GPA: 3.7
Major: World Arts & Cultures
- in supplemental application wrote about my Native American heritage and the struggles that come with it! Any input would help, thanks
P.S. is anyone else a WAC major?
I’m a SUPER LOW GPA applicant guys, I know doesn’t look good but please read below for reasoning.
Cog Sci with alt as Ling and Comp Sci
Tap Certified
3.5 GPA
talked about going to high school with affluent students and being the only Hispanic student in my classes and even being questioned about it, how it inspired me to create a tutoring service to those who don’t have money for services like SAT prep.
GPA would be 3.7+ but I took classes age 14 at my community college and screwed my GPA. Idk if they care about this but during years at community college especially first year, my dad(the only one who worked at the time) faced and faces major health issues talked about how the financial hardship affected me and my responsibilities changed so I tested out of high school at 16 to work and pursue school full time. Talked about developing python scripts that maximized potential out of Instagram’s algorithm to gain hundreds of thousands of followers. Last 1.5 years I have had straight A’s. Ik I have a low GPA but I hope they recognize the circumstances that IF I had 40+ hours a week purely for school and not worry about helping my family with bills among other responsibilities I could very well have a top GPA. In 10th grade, I got a 1500/1520 on the PSAT, Was a top student 4 AP classes in 10th grade… I also talked about having daily members with speed disabilities and my goal with the degree is to develop software that utilizes AI to help self-correct and get phrases out more consistently for those individuals. (I just turned 18 and am a sophomore in college so worst case I stay another year and just buff everything I can while strengthening my app, but It would be ideal to be accepted this year).
I’m so nervous about these decisions and the fact that we don’t know when they come out just makes it that much worse.
California Community College
Computer Science major
GPA: 4.0
Major Prep: All in progress or completed
IGETC: Done
Hi guys late to the party but I’m a 2nd year inter-UC transfer
Major: Physiological Sciences ( a biology major at my current UC)
GPA: 3.8 (the reason for the 3.8 is a B- my first quarter of college in a UC English writing requirement class which they grade super harshly, otherwise I would have around a 3.9 rip)
*I have gotten all A’s otherwise in the rest of all my classes so far though; all GEs/Transfer requirements done by Spring 2020
Here are my ECs:
-250 hrs hospital volunteering
-Volunteer tutor at emergency shelter (now online tutoring due to COVID 19)
- volunteered at elementary school (throughout high school till 2018)
- animal shelter volunteer (in cat room )
- YouTuber (I make doll stopmotions for kids)
-Certified Phlebotomist Technician license
-phlebotomy Externship at Urgent Care clinic - Active in school club that teaches CPR and educated about cardiovascular diseases to middle/high school students
I know my chances for UCLA are low due to already being at a UC and my gpa is a 3.8 but it’s worth a shot if I can stay at home and save some money from housing- I’m not really about the college life; I just wanna study in the comfort of my own home and find a phlebotomist job (it’s easier in LA than where I am). I also don’t really like living by myself in general, I miss being home.
Saw something about how UCLA was increasing their yield of freshman acceptances and waitlist spots because of the pandemic, in order to keep a steady enrollment. Would they do the same for transfers?
I hope so
@norcal57 TBH no one has any idea I think they will either take fewer applicants than last year or significantly more. There was a 7% jump in transfer applicants this year and I think the year before was a 5% jump, unlike freshman apps which have been declining. Though those numbers were before coronavirus so maybe they take more CA community college students to keep yield rates high. Its all speculation tbh. I had a friend with a 4.0 and TAP get waitlisted and a friend with a 3.17 get in last year.
@norcal57 i think it might or might not be a possibility, depending on whether or not we make it back onto campuses. i know i myself and many others will want to at least defer enrollment if it turns out that classes will be moved online for fall 2020 wherever i go. everything’s up in the air though and that’s the rumor that’s been going around
