@uclagal2020 3.17 in Econ but they switched majors more than once and did not do well in the other major classes(the reason for switching). I would guess they got a 3.6 average across econ classes. Still not spectacular but they explained why they did not have the advantages of the average student.
So do you guys think they’ve sent out the codes for the regents scholarship already? I would assume so, if decisions are coming out next week wouldn’t they allow at least a weak to write the 500 word essay?
@uclahistory2020 I feel with the number of smart people in this thread I would be extremely surprised that they released emails without anyone saying anything.
@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS” definitely true.
@uclahistory2020 ive heard they send out the regents code when you get accepted, and they give you until mid may to fill out the application
Just a random question, do we get any notifications from our community college if we are TAP certified or not? In January I submitted a form with my counselor and he also told me to just have my extracurriculars (part of my program’s requirement) done before Spring Break but other than that nothing. I am assuming the answer is no, we are not notified, but I’m just checking.
@urlocalreject oh really? I remember when they accidentally sent the email, the regents scholarship said “While we hoped to open this week…” meaning they were already planning on opening the scholarship last week.
I was not notified by my school or UCLA that they received my TAP, however, when I applied to UCI, they notified me that they accepted it so that is what tipped me off that I completed it.
i also did not receive any confirmation that ucla received my TAP, so I don’t think they let anyone know lol. wish they would confirm it though because I am super anxious.
@uclahistory2020 i think it’s been confirmed that Regents for UCLA transfers doesn’t come out till after acceptances now
@smallkiwi Just wondering why your counselors would advise against an EW. Does an EW look worse than a W. I was considering dropping a course and taking an EW or having it taken off my transcript because my school has that option as well.
I transferred to UCLA last year with a Regent Scholarship. I just thought that I would let you guys know what I found from meeting all the accepted transfer Regents kids because I was dying to know last year. So first off every single one of us had a 4.0 that was a very obvious similarity (not even one 3.9). Last year, they send the application to like ~260 transfer students and gave the scholarship to 37 transfer students( I found this out from the scholarship coordinator). I believe we had around one week to write our one essay.
I also noticed that there were 2 Regent Scholars from most of the nearby Los Angeles schools( SMC, Moorpark, Los Angeles community colleges) while the more distant schools only had one student. We all also had pretty very “pointy” application (our applications showed that we had a pretty clear idea of what our career path was).
This is totally speculation but I personally noticed a majority of us were not East Asian (while many of the non-transfer Regents Scholars are East Asian).
If you have any other questions let me know!!!
Does anyone know what percent of TAP applicants get their first choice?
@anthro101 Thanks for the input!!! Sucks that I have a 3.96 but I feel like my application was very “pointy” as I explicitly stated what I wanted to do in the future with my degree. Oh well I can only hope!
@anthro101 would you mind sharing how you went about the essay?
@anthro101 RIP. Guess I won’t be getting it. Just a measly 3.95
@kaitlynwang My counselor said an EW and a W will generally be viewed the same way. There’s nothing inherently “bad” about having them on an application but my counselor advised that I get a letter grade instead to show that I “stuck through it.”
I’m so nervous for next week
Waiting for Cal today is already stressful enough, I don’t think I have the strength to do this again next week haha XD
So there’s this chrome extension my friend showed me if you enable it before you click on your college decision notifications it plays “Congratulations” by Post Malone if you are accepted and play “Fix You” by Coldplay if you are rejected. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/college-decisions/koipchhnopdbedfkafbdcagkpgjbimaj?hl=en-US
