UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Hey folks,

I was wondering if someone can give me closure by telling me if I have a chance for Transfer to UCLA or not for Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology for Fall 2020. Here goes nothing!

GPA: 3.85

Got accepted into Davis and UCSC, waitlisted at Berkeley

Worked at a prominent government institution as a researcher during CC

Took all my major classes except physics, which according to LA, is optional for Transfer for my major.

My cc counselor said I wrote a fantastic set of PIQs, but I still got waitlisted at Berkeley.

Also, since this seems more pertinent now, I got the email about the transfer alumni scholarship a few months back and submitted it. Would appreciate the feedback!

I’ve been feeling like crap after the Berkeley acceptance because I can’t put a finger on what I did wrong.

Please don’t sugarcoat whether I’d get in or not. Thanks so much!

@nipthagreat I’m in exactly the same situation as you! Same major, GPA, prerequisites (didn’t do physics sequence either), and also waitlisted at Berkeley. I feel hopeless after hearing the news from UCB yesterday because I also thought I did everything I could. But, I hope we hear some good news this week!

@user238593894

Let’s hope we get in! These times are tough but everything will be alright soon!

Ughh I’m so freaking nervous.

I’m applying for econ, and in the aftermath of my Berkeley rejection, I’m really worried. I had all my prereqs done. I have 1 igetc requirement left that I’m finishing now. I have a 4.00 GPA. I have some good EC’s that I discussed in my essays and I worked in the writing center as a tutor, so I imagine my essays were good-I put so much time into them. I didn’t get a regents invitation, but I got the Transfer alumni scholarship application. Anyone know if that means anything, or does everyone get it? The Berkeley rejection was rough, I really thought I’d get in. I’m hoping this isn’t the same thing all over again.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m in pretty much the exact situation as you! The Berkeley rejection didn’t feel awesome, but it’s okay! They can’t accept everyone who is qualified, and I’m sure you would’ve done great there. The alumni scholarship invite was sent to everyone I believe. Also, don’t think that the Berkeley rejection is necessarily indicative of a UCLA rejection!!! You never know what will happen (-:

yeah, it does make me feel better. thanks for replying. It’s always nice to know you’re not alone lol. The Berkeley rejection was a real bummer; I genuinely hope you get into UCLA too! Good luck!

Any Spanish majors or Spanish and Linguistics majors on this thread?

Does anyone know if UCLA announces the day before release? Like Tuesday they’ll announce saying decisions will be out the next day? or do they wait until day of release to say anything??

Hey guys, did you all get the transfer alumni scholarship email? I never got the email and I’m a bit worried about it. I’ve already gotten into Davis and Cal but UCLA would be ideal so I’m kind of freaking out.

I received the Regents invite and not the alumni invite, so I probably wouldn’t worry too hard about it.

Same! I applied to Berkeley as Business Admin and the rejection was really tough because I was in the same boat as you, 4.0 GPA, but I’m applying as Business Econ at UCLA. Hopefully UCLA will work out for both of us. Good luck!

It’s comforting seeing many of us in the same position, it makes me feel less alone. The Berkeley rejection made me feel really discouraged about UCLA and is making me doubt the chance of getting admitted to any other school. However, we are all qualified and will make it one way or the other. Good luck to everyone I really wish all of us the best!!! We got this.

Berkeley’s rejection makes me really upset, too. I feel like losing the hope for UCLA. Also I have TAP, my gpa is below 25%th scope. I still lack one premajor course and got an B on one major course. Could anyone please tell me my odds? Thanks!

3.97 CS, no TAP no regents invitation I guess I am done lol

can u get into ucla with out TAP

Idk anymore, man, It’s starting to seem like we all basically bought 85$ lottery tickets.

@jjfjmjim hahaha sadly you are right.

im sorry if this sounds dumb but at the time of applying i had put down i was taking certain classes which would have put me over the 60 units needed to be a junior level applicant. But due to the situation right now, i dont have my job anymore and had to drop some classes which gave me an EW but also puts me at 59 units. Is there a certain deadline i need to have to 60 units by? I can take summer classes but i have no idea what to do. I emailed them but wanted a quicker answer from anyone who might know. thanks in advance!!

There are no advantages or disadvantages for being TAP certified. The only real advantage is that you get to pick an alternate major when applying to UCs which means that if you are rejected from your first major, they will go back through your application to see if you are eligible for your alternative major. However, if you’re applying to a specialty school then there’s not really any point since you can only pick a major from the college of letters and science. Other than that, they don’t really care if you are TAP certified or not. It doesn’t even sound like it’s a tie-breaker. This is what professors and students were saying at a transfer meeting at UCLA that I went to.

@NationE @doseofu I don’t think that is a correct statement. “Students who have completed the Honors/Scholars Program at their community college receive priority consideration for admission to UCLA College. Admitted TAP students are eligible to apply for scholarships reserved for the Transfer Alliance Program.” tap . ucla . edu remove spaces
