UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

For those who don’t know about TAP its different at every CC. My CC sends the most students to UCLA and requires you to take a certain amount of units with a certain GPA to be certified. The classes may include extra assignments/assessments, harder assessments, additional material added to the class. I definitely had to spend more time on my Scholars classes than non-Scholars classes. At least in my school, the Scholars classes even show a rougher grade distribution and are the cream of the crop in terms of some of the brightest minds on campus.

I didn’t do TAP. In fact, I didn’t do any honors classes and my CC has a really good honors program. I got the Regents invitation code though. I’m not saying I’m officially admitted, but why would they send me a code in the first place if I wasn’t an ideal candidate. So yes, I think it’s still very very possible for you to be admitted even if you didn’t do TAP (honors program at your CC).

@Bubonica That’s great news! I heard there is a major correlation between regents invites and admits. Also yes you don’t “need” TAP to get in although it does help your application if you aren’t perfect. I had a friend with TAP get in last year with a 3.4 but one without TAP who got waitlisted with a 3.89(same major).

Is there any correlation between Alumni Scholarship Recipients and admits? At first I thought that everyone got the invitation, but now it seems only a few did. And some even got regents without getting the Alumni invite.

@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS” There have also been people without TAP getting in with 3.3/3.4s. Everyone has a chance

@yoorak that’s true but few and far between. It also depends on how competitive your major is.

y’all think it’s coming out on wed (22nd) or fri (24th)? is it likely for decisions to be released even later than that?

I’m almost certain that it will be on Wednesday the 22nd (historically, it’s been on the fourth Wednesday of April).

My personal hunch is Friday the 24th. Just my gut feeling

I have been looking through past forums and it always seems to be the Wednesday after regents are sent. Regents are sent the Friday before.

I’ve always been so confident about getting accepted into UCLA (not an impacted major, 3.95 gpa, tap certified) but now that everyone is doubtful, so am I. Ugh I’m super nervous

2019, 2018, and 2017 decisions were all sent out Wednesdays, while 2016 and 2015 were sent out on Fridays. Maybe it will come out this Wednesday but until they say we can’t be sure. I do hope it’s this Wednesday though.

@uclahistory2020 I feel the same way. I wasn’t nervous until a few days ago and now I’m already prepared to receive a rejection lol. I wish you luck though!

@uclahistory2020 I would be extremely surprised if you didn’t get in, maybe I have a false sense of confidence but I have a 3.5 TAP certified going into a non-impacted major. Last few years we have had 85-90% TAP acceptance I believe my grades are above the bottom 20% of TAP certified students and that my ECs and Essays are top 10%. Don’t sweat it too much.

@minami haha same. Preparing for the worst but hoping for the best!

any engineering majors ready to cry on Wednesday?

Biz Econ/ Econ 4.0 with no TAP ready to cry lol. But I had a internship in Bank of China(44th of Fortune Global 500), and athlete background, hope that helps.

Hello all, bio major here! I’m just as freaked out as everyone else, I also agree about them coming out on Wednesday (I hope). I also got into Cal, anyone else who got into Cal worried UCLA won’t accept them?

You need 60 semester units by the end of Spring semester to be eligible to transfer to a UC

It seems like UC’s are okay with you completing the last of your transfer requirements in the summer, if absolutely necessary (due to the pandemic).

Here’s the link: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/response-covid-19.html

Here’s the info: "Can I complete required transfer courses this coming summer, if spring courses have to be cancelled?

Yes, so long as you meet minimum admissions requirements by the time you enter UC in the fall; this includes completion of 60 semester/90 quarter transferable units and the 7-course pattern, as well as attainment of a minimum 2.4 GPA (2.8 for nonresidents).

Completing minimum requirements by spring is a selection criterion used by many of our campuses. Students who will need summer coursework to meet minimum requirements due to spring course cancellations should work directly with their UC campus admissions office to determine any potential impact on an admission decision."
