What I meant was completing prereqs before application review. It DOES give you a competitive edge once you complete them in the fall because those are the grades they review (of course, after the transfer academic update, which are fall classes).
There are plenty of people on past threads and UCB’s current thread saying they were waitlisted/denied because major prerequisites are currently in progress. They actually called admissions!!
@jjfjmjim Exactly! Some majors will actually state this on their assist page. Like business economics.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a full year before admissions. That’s not even my point. Many freshmen who are currently at UCs complete major prereqs WAYYY BEFORE they even declare.
I’m sorry I had never looked at assist for majors like buisness and stuff you are 100% correct. Every major I have ever looked at stated spring. I flagged my comments so they can get deleted and not spread inaccurate information.
Do you guys think I could still be considered for admission as undeclared in L&S. I applied stats, but I just took a look at UCLA’s requirements for stats and it says that to even be considered for the major I will need to complete a stats course (which I haven’t). I didn’t even declare an alternate major on my form.
@SmartNPretty Rumors are they’ll be out April 24, so Friday. That’s when they came out last year and there’s been some chatter about them starting to come out in waves by major on Friday
@anishtheind I don’t think that you can transfer as an undeclared major. As a transfer you must have a major selected to transfer from what my counselor told me. I know at Berkeley everyone is undeclared for L&S but I believe at UCLA it’s different. I’m curious why would you apply as statistics if you haven’t taken statistics? Are you a math major?
No I’m not a math major. I’m undecided between CS and Data Science rn, so I chose Stats on a whim. Had I known that stats was impacted and a stats course was required I would have applied for some other major. Not to mention, my GPA is too low for CS. Do you think I could still be considered for some form of conditional admission(i.e Must complete a stats course during the summer)?
On the UCSD thread a person told me that they “have a semi-inside source saying that UCLA will release on the 22nd”. I have no idea what semi-inside means, but they got my hopes up for tomorrow
Transfer counselor at my CC used to work closely with UC admissions. We were told that because of how competitive it is, it matters to UCLA whether we are still completing our major prereqs. It is highly recommended to complete all major prereqs by the end of Fall 2019. We are still held accountable for Spring 2020 grades.
Written word is that UCLA will accept major prereq completion to end of Spring 2020.
hii all, first time posting! I’m usually on the usc thread lol but it seems I won’t hear back from them for forever so here I am. first, good luck to everyone tomorrow (if that is in fact when we hear back)!
second, any film applicants? I applied to ucla just because I know they have a good program but my eyes have always been on usc and that’s definitely the school I tailored my coursework towards over the past two years in terms of gen ed’s so I’m a bit worried about ucla.
anyone know how hard it is to get in for film? I know for freshman the acceptance rate is pretty painfully low…
