UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Ik it’s really late to be asking this lol but I’m wondering if not applying for the transfer alumni scholarship even though I got the email will hurt my chances of getting in? Cuz now I’m wondering if they wanted us to apply to show interest? Could be totally wrong tho

it won’t, the scholarship committee is completely separate from the admissions committee

Does anyone have any advice/tips for the Regents essay?

have you guys applied to any private schools? I got into Pace University, LMU, and Pepperdine. Still waiting to hear from USC and NYU but UCLA is my top choice and I’m so anxious :frowning:

Yes - I was accepted to USF for business.

$52,000/year tuition & they offered me a $23,000 scholarship.
So it’s still gonna be $29,000/year for 2 years so $58,000 for an undergrad degree. Hahaaaa

omg idk if anyone else already said this but I checked my ucla portal and went to “contact us” and the options of updating coursework and withdrawing my application are no longer being accepted… is this a sign that it’s coming out tomorrow??? or has it been like that for a while?

wait nvm I learned that it’s been like that for the past couple of days lol sorry

It shouldn’t affect her admissions decision! the grades on the UC application do not update even after the transfer update is submitted. If you are concerned, I’d go ahead and check the TAU portal to make sure the grade was reported.

I’m so anxious for tomorrow… I’ve felt pretty calm throughout the decisions process so far but this is the big one!!

Hi gang, here’s my stats:
GPA: 3.98 / 4.00
[ *] California Community college: Mission College
[ *] Major: Psychology
[ *] Honors: Yes, with 18 units completed by the end of Spring 2020. I will be UCLA TAP certified.
[ *] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Toastmasters (Co-Vice Pres. Public Relations)
[ *] Job/Work Experience: Tutor at my college’s tutoring center; respite caretaker for a teenager with autism
[ *] Volunteer/Community service: N/A, except for some things I did in high school, a few of which I put on my application towards the bottom

Major requirements: All except for a philosophy class. I am like 99.99% sure this will cost me my admission, as psychology is insanely impacted at UCLA…

[ *] Personal Statements:

  • Required question: I talked about my interest in psychology, connecting it back to my childhood growing up with an autistic sibling, and then talked about the opportunities I took advantage of at my community college to enrich my experience and prepare me for transfer (specifically the Honors Transfer Project, which introduced more opportunities for research that mimics what you’d see at a UC. I also briefly mentioned my job as a respite caretaker to show that I’m serious about pursuing psychology and have some experience under my belt already)
  • Creativity essay: I talked about being a journalism student in high school and how I had to think of creative, out-of-the-box solutions to manage my workload since I had two editor positions at once in my senior year. I talk about what I learned and how these skills have transferred to college.
  • Academic challenge essay: I talk about the circumstances that led me to going to community college after high school as opposed to a 4 year university and how going to community college has helped me grow as a person and as a student, and how the traits I have accumulated at the community college will help me once I transfer
  • Significant life challenge essay: I talk about growing up in America as a Pakistani-American Muslim Immigrant (i know, it’s the typical immigrant essay, blah blah) and the struggles I’ve faced in balancing two completely different cultures and finding myself in the process. Things like that. Cliche.

[ *] Applied for Financial Aid?: No
[ *] Gender: F

Admitted:
SJSU
UCSC
UCD (TAG)
UCSB

Rejected:
UCB

Pending:
UCLA
UCSD

I’m just… that one philosophy class is going to cost me my entire admission probably… :frowning:

@poliscigal thanks for your Response! Where would we find the TAU portal to make sure the grade was reported ? When she logs into her portal the winter course shows IP and not a grade . That’s our concern -that the grade didn’t get reported for some reason .

not me checking this thread every hour still as if someone is gonna post that they were accepted at 11 o’clock at night

Any discrepancies between self-reported grades and transcripts should be reported immediately if she’s admitted. There should be a ‘contact us’ or ‘update grades’ under ‘Conditions of Admissions.’ I’m unsure how exactly the UCLA (accepted) applicant portal will look like as it hasn’t come out yet, but I’m sure it’s very similar to the other UCs which have those links.

Her TAU merged with her original application after it was submitted. You can view the entire application on the UC application account.

Did anyone know that will it be a serious reason for rejection if I am missing the discrete math class as a prereq for math/econ major? I am currently taking linear algebra and differential equations.Thanks.

I feel like I’m the only one not stressing out about major prep or GPA. I’m only stressing out about IGETC. Everyone on here has IGETC. My only excuse for not doing it is I’m a STEM major and I’m a one year transfer. But then again, IDK if i would consider math major prereqs as hard as other STEM majors. I did finish the 7 course pattern though.

@hikashi For math major it seems like they are more caring about major prereqs. On the last page of UCLA Transfer Admission Guide 2020, it says IGETC is strongly encouraged, but not required. Maybe it will help.

Hey guys! I’ve been up late thinking about the possibility of admission decisions coming out today and I’m so stressed/scared/excited I can’t sleep!! I hope it’s out today because the wait is killing me

@Bobamilktea1 Yeah that’s what has me shook though. I wonder if its strongly encouraged to increase chances of admissions or its strongly encouraged for our own good.

I didnt do IGETC just BASIC GE requirements, but I have TAP. I dont think IGETC should be a deciding factor for math majors. good luck!

what is advantage to have TAP?
