I looked so long but I can't find this information!

What do students do their first year? I was accepted to the School of Arts and Architecture - will I be doing any classes like drawing or sculpture yet? Or am I just doing GenEd with barely any art classes. Because I might potentially transfer to a full-art school.

I'm aware there's these 'lower' division and 'upper' division classes but I'm not understanding it very well.

Also, if anyone has more information on where I can hear from Art students at UCLA I would be very grateful!! (Or if you know about UCLA art very well)
Thanks!

I know people in the music programs, desma, and other arts programs in Arts and Arch and they definitely take art classes their first year. You will be taking GEs but you should also be taking a couple of lower division art/major classes each quarter, just like with any regular major. I know desma students take classes like Form, Color, Drawing, or Typography.

Look here for classes available in different departments and look at your department’s website to see the major requirements.

[Schedule of Classes Home Page](http://registrar.ucla.edu/schedule/schedulehome.aspx)

Gen ed at UCLA? On the website, it looks as if there’s only english and, if you haven’t taken it in high school, US history. Is this incorrect

Sorry bump! I forgot I posted here. Thanks for the replies!

yes I downloaded the PDF from here: [UCLA Registrar’s Office: General Education Requirements](http://registrar.ucla.edu/GE/)

It doesn’t seem like there’s lower division classes? I really hope there is! I still don’t get what lower/upper division classes are. Do lower division classes usually start freshmen year?

Here are your GE reqs for the school of Arts & Architecture:
[School of the Arts and Architecture: School Requirements](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/catalog/catalog11-12-47f.htm)

Lower div is any course numbered 1-99 - they are GE, weeder and basic major classes, upper div is numbered 100-199 and are usually advanced major courses, 200-299/500-599 are grad school, 400-499 professional school level

Pretty much you are free to fill your schedule with your GE requirement classes, major req classes and whatever units leftover with any classes you feel like taking.
