Any movement for WL admissions today? My son got into all UC except UCLA but UCLA is his 1st choice.

Same for my daughter and she withdrew all. What major is your son waiting for?

What if somebody gets off of the first college waitlist and commits, but then also gets off of the second college waitlist. In this scenario, is it okay to withdraw from first college and commit to second college?

Yes, you can withdraw from the 1st college after committing since the waitlist is not binding. You just lose the enrollment deposit each time you withdraw.

How can international students get F-1 study permit visa on time if thet get off the waitlist in late Juneor July? Do college consider this problem?

Just wanted to note that my DD (on the waitlist) is sad that several students in her (small!) CA high school have been admitted off the waitlist, and one student even commented (and she overheard) ā€œeveryone with half a brain is getting off the UCLA waitlist this year.ā€

Iā€™d been sanguine about the UCLA waitlist and had moved on myself mentally (she SIRā€™d to UCSB), as I figured her chance of getting off the waitlist was only 3%, but as it seems the chances are actually higher this year (maybe 14%?), her not being offered a spot as of today feels even worse (to me).

Iā€™m assuming some of you here feel the same. Itā€™s easier to move on if no one else has heard back either! Itā€™s like being rejected TWICE. . .not a great feeling.

ditto. Since the process is not totally transparent - itā€™s easy to make assumptions - especially ones that arenā€™t particularly helpful or kind!

Yes, my son told me that he has overheard similar things at his (large CA public) HS as well. He thinks these comments are really unkind, both to students who got in off the WL, and students who are still on the WL.

yea i worked really hard on the LOCI and some people who just wrote ā€œI want to go to UCLAā€ or ā€œgod bless americaā€ have gotten off. Thats just the reality though

Iā€™m right there with you. When my son SIRā€™d to UCSD, I thought Iā€™d be done with all this stress and we could move on with our lives. But the UCLA WL is still hanging out there. I assumed there would be very little chance heā€™d get off the WL, so hearing that more kids than I expected have heard back sucks me in again. I have to remind myself, just like I did through the whole process, that a lot of these decisions are very major-specific, so you canā€™t really compare one kidā€™s experience with anotherā€™s. Itā€™s so hard though!

Is there still going to be a wave of UCLA decisions today?

The recent historic trend shows just how much UCLAā€™s yield rate has moved around:

Class entering Fall '18 = 39.1% yield
Class entering Fall '19 = 43.1%
Class entering Fall '20 = 40.9%
Class entering Fall '21 = 43.8%
Class entering Fall '22 = 50.3%

With a yield rate that bounces around between 43% - 50%, itā€™s easy to see why the need to utilize the waitlist could fluctuate significantly year over year.

Based on what is going on and talking to people, they were using the 50% yield to admit. The yield will be much lower than 2018. There will be more movements between the UCs.

Congrats to whoever got itā€¦1st round or WL. You should be proud!!!

They could be lying to be cool about what they wrote. They might of written much better LOCI. UCLA is not stupid to fall for that.

Exactly. Someone could get admitted in the 1st wave or from the WL purely due to a misestimation of the initial yield. Itā€™s got nothing to do with applicant quality.
