1) Okay...feeling a teense overwhelmed w/the whole housing thing. I filed my FAFSA with off campus housing, and it's not covered (I have read that only "fees" are covered and housing is technically not a "fee"...so makes sense, right?). Anyway, I have been hearing that if I requested on campus housing, I would receive more aid. Is this true? Trying to decide if I should switch...

2) I am an older transfer (23) and am wondering if that would be awkward living on campus with all you youngsters ;] (I think it would be fine, but I'm wondering if there are there any other students who are a bit older living on campus?)...I know there are off campus "university owned" apartments, and there are also singles on campus...I think I need to do some more research, but I really have no idea which route I should take at this point. Thoughts?

3) Off topic bonus question...my contract states admission is contingent upon maintaining my current GPA...this is OVERALL, correct? I'm thinking yes?

1) yes you would receive more aid if you lived on campus and notified as such on your financial aid.

2) you prob wouldnt feel awkward at all. most of the transfer are about 20-22. they also room you up with transfers so its not like you are going to get stuck with 18 year old 1st years. you also have the option of living in suites/plazas where there would be more transfers in your building.

3) yes that is correct. but honestly… as long as your gpa doesnt fall below a 3.0 overall you should be fine.

I’ve heard you get about $2,000 more living on campus than off. but are the university owned apartments classified as off-campus? I think they are, but I’m not completely sure, and am a little confused about the whole thing. and you’re not old! you’ll be fine living with other transfers.

Thanks for your responses, guys! As far as the apartments go, I was wondering the same thing! So we obviously have to apply for housing to be eligible to stay in the apartments, but yet it’s considered off-campus? Well…I guess that makes sense, considering that they aren’t…on-campus. lol. Wheeew, aaand it’s late and I’m brain dead.

Also, if it costs more to live on-campus and you only get a little more aid, it’s probably a wash…hmm. socal, did you get the scoop on anything? Where are you guys planning on living? (There may already be a thread on that…haven’t checked yet.)

hey guys, i just checked out this with one of the UCLA housing department staff regarding the issue of selecting on/off campus housing… and most likely what he says is that, as long as you havn’t turn in the housing application… all you have to do to change from on/off campus housing is by going to the “financial aid” office at murphey hall directly… otherwise, whenever you call financial aids, they would say sth like… u need to call the housing department. …
