I was wondering if UCLA will look at my Major GPA or my overall GPA for Psychology and Sociology? I also switched my major from CS to Psychology so will they look at that GPA as well? I have a 4.0 major gpa but a 3.59 overall gpa how competitive am I?
Here you go.

UCLA has one of the best psychology departments in the country, so it is highly competitive and perhaps even impacted(Don’t quote me on the latter). The 25% was at 3.71 and the 7th% was 3.95.
Sociology is somewhat of a “safety major”. I knew a lot of psychology majors who switched over to sociology or history since they found psych to be a bit demanding. The 25% percentile is around 3.6 and the 75% is 3.87.
Your overall GPA will perhaps make it difficult for psychology even though you have a 4.0 towards the major. I wouldn’t say it is a reach, you still have a 4.0 towards the major but UCLA wants their admitted students to be well-versed everywhere. So, just merely going on your numbers, sociology would be far more feasible. I think you’ll have a decent shot at that. Just have a strong essay, ask somebody from your reading center or a professor to look at it.
