Got a C in major class :(

I just finished summer semester at my CC. I took my major requirement classes: Biology and Psych 1. I got my grades and I got a B in biology but a C in Psych 1. That dropped my gpa to a 3.00. I’m a psych major, in the UC honors program and I’m hoping to transfer to UCLA. But with this that happened, I’m crushed to see that I might not get that chance anymore, even if they will review my fall grades.

Any UC transfer psych major know if UCLA accepts Cs for major classes? Also, any tips for my classes this fall sesmter? Should I apply anyways and try do make really good personal statements?

UCLA, above all, needs to see a competitive cumulative GPA. Is next semester your last? If not, you still have a chance at bossing your GPA to a competitive level.

How many completed semesters do you have under your belt? What was your semesterly GPA for each?

In order to even be able to recover your GPA, you need to rethink your studying habits. It’s going to require straight A’s to recover from a 3.0.

Spring 2018 is my last semester. This is my last year at my CC. I’ve completed 4 semesters so far (fall, winter, spring, and summer). I had a 3.5 for fall, 3.33 for winter, and 2.6 for spring (I got two D’s in stats and art class but I will be retaking those this fall). I did some gap calculations and it’s most likely that my GPA will go up to a 3.6 if all goes well.

Have you considered other UC’s? Perhaps less selective ones? A 3.6 for UCLA is quite low (and this is assuming you get straight A’s!). Their average admitted transfer GPA for psychology majors is 3.83. While you can still apply, you should consider other options, and apply broadly.

Yep. I have UCSB and Mercedes. Also, thankfully in the tap program I’m in, I can choose in alternate major in ucla in case my main major won’t let me in. I chose linguistics and psychology as my alternate since it isn’t impacted and has a lower gpa admission

Let’s assume you’ll have a 3.6 GPA by the time you apply. Have you considered USC, perhaps? Have you considered any out of state schools?

Let me ask you this: Are there any other schools that you’d want to attend as badly as UCLA?
