UCLA-Major requirement foreign language

Hi guys! I have a question for getting an admission (major Asian studies)

I'm planning to transfer from CCC to UCLA.
I will apply to Asian studies major.I graduated high school in Korea. Also I took japanese classes for two years in high school. However, I did not take any Asian language classes in the college. When I checked UCLA website, Applicants must complete a minimum of one year (two semesters/three quarters) of college-level courses in one of these languages to be considered for admission. It means that I cannot be considered as Asian studies major for admission?

Please help me... Thank you.

The two years of Japanese classes you took in high school should satisfy the IGETC foreign language requirement. I’m sure of that. But just in case, you should check with your counselor.

Since you’ve almost certainly completed the foreign language requirement, I see no reason why you would be rejected because of some technicality regarding the IGETC.

Are you applying for transfer next year?

Thank you for helping. I already talked with my counselor but she didn’t answer it clearly.

Yeah, some counselors don’t know what they’re talking about and some do. You just have to be lucky enough to get one of the good ones.

I suggest that you contact the UCLA admissions office and explain your situation in detail. I’m sure they’ll give you the same answer I did, but it’s nice to double-check these things.

I’m sure that if I graduated high school in other country, it will satisfy IGETC. However, I’m not sure about major requirement. They said that applicants must complete a minimum of one year of college-level courses in one of these languages to be considered for admission.
It means that I can or cannot be considered for admission?

Thank you anyway.

Are you fluent in Korean and/or Japanese? If so, [UCLA General Catalog 2013-14: International and Area Studies Undergraduate Study](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/catalog/catalog13-14-428.htm) indicates that a language placement test can satisfy some or all of the language requirement. But for transfer admissions, you probably want to ask the department directly what they accept for proving your fluency in the language.

Thank you for helping. I sent an email to the department but they didn’t reply yet.
I’m confused for transfer admission. They said, Applicants must complete a minimum of one year (two semesters/three quarters) of college-level courses in one of these languages to be considered for admission.
