This is for Arts and Sciences, undeclared major, but looking at Economics and English, kinda interested in double majoring too if that's possible. Now I know UCLA is better ranked...and I prefer the campus, but my major concerns are:

Impacted majors, this could deny me a major I want
Large classes: Public Uni, though I don't know how much is hyped up
Accomodation: Triples in a double room? How bad is it? or am I just getting too worried...

Cost isnt an issue cuz I'm out of state same thing.

IMO...with NYU you have more "hand holding" by administration than UCLA-private vs public university...fact of life...if you plan to attend grad school, which undergrad do YOU feel will help you achieve that goal? BTW...congrats on getting accepted oos at UCLA..no easy feat with over 50,000 applicants!

personally i never had a problem with a triple in de neve, but we always kept the room clean and we dont have a microfridge or drawers in the open. my floormates are jealous because of the space we have =)

last year i had to choose between ucla and nyu. i didnt give nyu as much consideration because of their financial aid package (im in state), but like APOL said since youre OOS it wont matter too much. you cant go wrong with either school

While NYU is a private school, my friends there tell me it's more easy to get lost than possibly anywhere else. It's huge, it's impersonal, and classes tend to be pretty similar in size to UCLA. I have found UCLA to have a great support system (if you look for it) and the central residential life and beautiful campus is a sharp contrast to NYU's location, which is right in the bustle of the city.

Classes here aren't as big as people make them out to be. I found my 500 person history lecture to actaully be very personal. ANd remember, you always have discussion sections of 15-20 with a TA. Also, this year, I've had at least one 20 person class a quarter with a professor, they're called seminars.

I agree ^. Although I'm biased, the whole 'large class at a public university' thing doesn't really matter too much, and it's not like youre neglected because its not a private school. The large classes are mainly lectures, where you really only have to pay attention and take notes, so 15 or 150 more people don't make a difference. I came from a small private high school and there was really no change I had to make coming to UCLA. New York's a great city though (I've heard), and I have a few friends who are doing fine at NYU.

Probably one of the cooler perks I've enjoyed by going to a public uni is getting to stop and see all the nutty people who come onto campus. My favorite are the open-air evangelists. Remember, just cause they look sane doesn't mean they not crazy!

There really isn't a significant difference in the quality of each school...I would choose NYU only because I love New York City, it is probably a more liberal college, and it is stronger in the areas I will be studying. Plus Greenwich Village is awesome. You should break down the positives and negatives of each school for your situation.
