Hi! I’m having a huge crisis at the moment deciding between attending UCLA and UC Berkeley. I was wondering if anyone has input as to which college is best for pre-med and microbiology majors. I understand that both schools have very competitive pre-med programs.
I received the Regent’s Scholarship for UCLA which is the main reason why I’m having a hard time deciding. I know I will receive a lot of benefits as a Regent Scholar but at the same time Cal is a very prestigious school and is regarded highly in my family.Money is not an issue for my family so the difference in tuition is not a big deciding factor.
I haven’t had the chance to visit UCLA so I’d highly appreciate it if anyone could provide some insight as to what living and studying at LA is like. Also, if there are any Regents Scholars from UCLA, I’d love to hear about how the scholarship has helped you.
Thank you!
Why does your family regard Cal so highly? Does it have to do with bragging rights or do they really think you are going to do better there with med school admissions? You have to go the best place for you. The difference in prestige is really completely immaterial for: career, grad school, med school. So why does it matter? It isn’t like you have only the choice of Berkeley or East Swampy State U (to borrow a phrase from another CCer). I think you have to decide if you are going to be affected personally by campus location and vibe. Otherwise Regents is a tremendous advantage that will make college life easier for you, seems to me.
Also you are more likely to find current students in the individual college forum.
