Hey guys so I got into UCLA for Pre Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics and UCSD for Microbiology. I am considering between the two and since I would like to go to medical school (for immunology) in the future, I am not sure which campus to go to. I heard that UCSD has a potentially easier curriculum than UCLA, but still isn’t that easy.
My main concerns are the difficulty in being able to get the classes I want; getting internships, research, volunteering; and the level of competition at the school (cutthroat or still extremely pressured).
*Cost isn’t an issue because I’m paying relatively the same amount for both.
Another side interest of mine is to minor in music if that’s possible and if time lets me.
I am confident that UCSD will make you work just as hard for biology fields. Biology at UCSD is really good.
Either school will provide equally well for the pre-med. Consider how well the schools and locations fit with your style and gut feeling. Academics-wise and class-size, they are similar.
They will both be good. For your proposed plan of study and concerns, I might favor UCSD slightly. Excellent bio-sciences at UCSD. UCLA medical also really top-notch. I wouldn’t attend either for “easier”, but fit makes sense.
The music question is interesting. Believe it or not, arts in general at UCSD are really quite interesting, and tend toward the more avant-garde / theoretical. Some great programs, but I can’t comment directly on music.
