UCLA Poli Sci foreign language req

Okay, here's the deal. I've heard around here the UCLA doesn't have a default for lang req, which is why they don't require high school transcripts. (They didn't ask for one on my contract.)

Then today someone called asking if I had any questions regarding UCLA admissions (out of the blue, haha. anyone else get this call?). I asked her about the foreign language req and she said UCLA did have it.

Is this right? She didn't inspire a lot of confidence. She didn't even know what IGETC was :(

IGETC has a language requirement. TO satisfy general education in community college you can be IGETC certified. ... it is one way........ or to do UCLA gen ed or another campus UC breadth requirements. This is just to satisfy the general education portion.

For your Poli Sci major there is no specific language requirement.

If you follow the UCLA GE requirements instead there is NO language req there. It is 10 courses but a language is not required.

Thanks Malishka! I'm getting so confused with all these different requirements :/

I figure I'll go to my CC tomorrow with my HS transcripts and request IGETC certification. If that doesn't work out, hopefully UCLA won't rescind my admission since their GE doesn't require foreign lang anyway. (I finished everything else on IGETC.)

What do you think?

If you said you will have IGETC done and then you do not they can rescind you.

They base their decision based on your application.

I thought that a foreign language was a requirement for everyone:

[from the Orientation website]

Foreign Language Requirement
Students who are required to complete the Foreign Language Requirement (see above) may do so in one of three ways:

Credit for a foreign language course at UCLA for quarter level 3 or above or an equivalent course at another institution.

A score of 3 or higher on an Advanced Placement (AP) foreign language test in French, German, or Spanish, or a score of 4 or higher on the Latin test.

A UCLA Foreign Language Placement exam score indicating foreign language competency through quarter level 3 or higher.

It's all good, I went to my CC today with my high school transcript and they OK'd it for IGETC.

It would have sucked if they didn't, and if UCLA had consequently rescinded my admission. It would've been all about the paperwork - I'm trilingual, so proficiency isn't the issue, LOL.
