Hey can I satisfy this with my transcripts from high school?

I attended elementary and high school abroad. I had Filipino classes there. Would CCCs accept this to fulfill my foreign language requirement for IGETC?

Oh, and my counselor actually told me to just study spanish. There's no one to test me for proficiency in my CC.

Anybody had this type of problem before? I'm going to the admissions office on Tuesday for this, and they better not disappoint!

Yes, taking two years of a foreign language in high school should fulfill the requirement, it worked for me as well. I don’t think you having done it abroad would make a difference, but be sure to ask your counselor about it come Tuesday.

i had the exact situation before. i studied in the Philippines for HS and my freshman year of college. the filipino classes should fufill the requirements. Do you have TAG or TAP at your school? if so you talk to the specific counselor thats in charge of those programs.

yup go right ahead. im actually transferring to UCLA so im pretty sure i can answer your questions=]

and no i did not receive any college credit. well actually, i take that back its in my transcript but none of the units were transferable even after getting my transcript evaluated. so no theres technically no credit.

We’re on the exact same page iZychr! My counselor told me that Tagalog is fine. All we need is the high school transcript. How many units have you completed already?

@UCLAbound20, whut? Why didn’t they credit any of your courses? That sucks.

^
Units in CC or in my other college? I have 38 units already. It’s my first year here in the US.

In my other college… I have 50-ish lol. Screw filipino college system. I hope nothing transfers because UCs have a limit on unit count and going over the unit count is automatic rejection (some ucs will consider you)

38 in the CC? It’s my first year too but luckily I had around 27-ish UC-transferable course units from back home so I’m sophomore-ish right now. I’ll still spend two years in the CC though thanks to the IGETC and lower division prereqs ugh.

Oh so you haven’t had your foreign transcript evaluated by a UC international admissions specialist yet? Yea. I think it’s around 80 or 90, something. I couldn’t remember haha.

College life was a lot easier back home, huh? No IGETC-schmIGETC stuff to worry about. Hahaha.

I have 38 from my CC. How’d you know that your units back home were transferrable?

I haven’t had them evaluated, I have no idea where to find a specialist anywhere near my school >.< But UCLAhopeful here had none. I came from a less known school which had a weird system of prerequistes, so I’m 99% confident that I don’t have any transferable units.

We have no IGETC to think about because we weren’t transferring.

I contacted Berkeley’s International admissions specialist through e-mail. She gave me a pre-screening questionnaire then I was able to schedule an appointment with her. She reviewed the transcript and listed the courses that I could use.

Go to the UC campus you hope to enroll in eventually or at least the UC campus nearest you. Same here. They barely know any of our schools anyway haha. My CC didn’t credit any of the subjects I took in my previous school but Berkeley did. I was surprised actually. So you should try contacting the UCs first even though you think no course will transfer. :D

Yupyup. A lot of my friends transferred to other schools and didn’t have to put up with so much stuff like us, as expected. Hahaha.
