I was admitted for the fall. I decided to take summer courses to get an early start. My final transcripts however have not been evaluated yet and therefore it does not appear that I’ve met the basic reqs for most upper division courses. Additionally the two courses that interested me the most listed reqs that i have not fulfilled. For example they say “Requisites: course 40, two courses in Field III” and “two courses in Field II, or course 20 and one course in Field II.” As a first-time student at UCLA i obviously haven’t taken courses in either fields. However, the summer session office assured me that as long as the reqs did not list specific course numbers they could not be enforced and i would be fine. I was able to enroll in the courses but i am afraid i’ll be dropped once the session starts. Since i have no experience with the UC system, i would appreciate some input from anyone who does. I’ve seen transfers and alumni post on other discussions so i would love some insight- Thanks in advance.
Requisites for classes are enforced for the most part. In some cases you will not be able to enroll.

Thank you for responding! Is this true for the current poli sci department or is your response referencing the general university? Can you give some more details about how it works for poli sci (i’m specifically taking courses poli sci 149 w/ Shrode and 139 w/ Eason)? Are all requisites enforced or only the ones with specific course numbers ( as the summer session office assured me)? And when would they drop me (first week of school or after giving me notice)? Can you get approval from counselors or individual professors? And maybe i should’ve started off with this- do you know of anyone who took summer session after being offered admissions for the fall? Is this not recommended since i don’t know when they will input my transfer credit? Does this happen at orientation or before?
So my questions are all over the place but any info is helpful because i’m deciding whether to exchange my classes for those that don’t include the extra requisites of ‘two courses in Field III or Field II’. However depending on your response ^ i might just exchange my courses for two outside the poli sci department that don’t list requisites at all.
For poli sci you should email the professor. Their contact info will be on ccle which can be accessed through the study list on myUCLA. When you enrolled you should’ve seen exclamation points that tell you if the pre req is enforced upon enrollment or if it is up to the discretion of the professor. Again only the professor can answer since each class is different.
I will definitely be doing that- thanks!
And if i wanted to exchange classes after the session starts can i still do that on myUCLA? or will i need a the professors approval through a permit or something?
To exchange classes you do that on myucla.
Will i still be able to exchange classes on myucla after the first day of class though? I am asking because at my community college you’re not able to add classes electronically after the semester begins, you have to obtain an permit and go through this other often long process.
Nope you can swap classes up until a certain deadline
Thank you again for all the help!
