UCLA Regents Invitation Notification

My daughter received it via email Friday at about 6PM Pacific.

Could it be that they send the top candidates first and give them a short period to respond? Then based on the response received they may send out next wave.
@2018dad, is there a dead line for sending the response?

^^ Yes, there’s a deadline. Feb. 13

Thanks @2018dad.
My son is not a regents candidate. He applied for computer since major. as such, we will be watching for those engineering likely letters as well.

From my school, I know for sure of 2 people who have gotten the invitation. They both have a 4.0 (UW), but I don’t know what their SAT score is. Neither were NMSFs, so I would imagine their SAT scores are not 2400s, but I could definitely be wrong about that. I have also talked to several 3.95+, 2250+ SAT people who did not receive the invitation (including myself).

The lack of chatter on this thread makes me hopeful that there is another batch of invitations waiting to go out, but the fact that at least 2 people from my school did get invited makes me afraid that I’m incorrect.

Their website says they only invite the top 1.5% of applicants (approximately 1000 people) so not very many get it. I wouldn’t worry about it.

It’s important to note that this is not an admission to UCLA.

On the other hand, if you receive one from UC Berkeley, then you’re in.

The top 1.5% would be about 1300 with the high number of applicants these days. It is not clear whether UCLA still is inviting 1000 to apply (and letting the percentage fall to 1.15%), or has increased the number invited to 1300. Either way, the number invited is at least as great as the number invited at USC for merit scholarships, and the recent invitations there resulted in an extensive CC thread. Perhaps the lack of a similar thread here is because the Regents monetary award isn’t much (though priority registration and availability of parking are valuable perks). Although the Regents may not be very generous money-wise, I have the impression that it is one of the more prestigious college scholarships out there.

It is prestigious. Even though it is not much money unless for need based cases, it has a valve when you are applying for graduate school and/or jobs after graduation.
It is an admission to UCLA. Who else would they admit if not top1.5%.?

I got an invite for the Alumni Scholarship but not for Regents. Anyone else like me? So I’m guessing Alumni and not Regents means rank 1300ish-4500ish based on GPA and SAT?

Yes, I did as well. There is a thread about it.

Congratulations to all who got Ragent’s and or Alumni call!!

When do they start sending Engineering likely letters?

UCLA Engineering sends likely letters?

That is what I understand from the previous years threads

Are they done sending out all regents’ Scholar notifications?

Are there any instructions for the letter of recommendation for my teacher?

These are the only instructions I see.

I got a likely letter for Engineering but I wasn’t Regents. I received it March 12 last year. Congrats to all the Regents!

Will the scholarship committee have access to our UC application (activites, service, etc.), or will they be judging solely based off of our new essays?

Ojeshsh,

Why does that say “Anything received after February 13, 2014 will not be accepted.” when the real deadline to apply is February 28, 2014?

Edit: Never mind, I did not see it was for the Regents Scholarship.
