I got a letter from the university saying I've been entered to compete for a Regent's Scholarship. Does that mean I've already been admitted or my chances are very good?

It is common belief that IF you have received this letter you are in the acceptance "pile"-but formal notification has not yet been issued. I would not go out an celebrate until you see an acceptance in writing-then celebrate! G'Luck!!!

aww the anticipation. i remember it quite clearly
love ucla :)

My D got a leter today too.

UCLA Financial Aid Office-Scholarship Office

the top 1.5% are offered to compete
but then 100 of the 700-850 receive

When I read it I totally skipped to the bold print of the UCLA Regents Scholarship
did not see the
Compete for

either way... I am totally hoping this means an acceptance basically... I mean... 1.5 percent...

Yeah, it is an acceptance letter of sorts. Congratulations, but be sure to apply for the scholarship. I hope to see you at the Scholars Reception in April.

^look who's back.

I just got my letter today! Does this mean I'm in FOR SURE?

Are you all talking about physical mail or e-mail? :-/

and could it be that they send the notifications out like, in waves... not all at once?

Physical mail.

if they invite the top 1.5% to compete, how exactly do they define the top 1.5%? what are you guys' stats?

I got a physical letter too: It's dated Jan 24, 3008. I expected to get it, comparing myself to those who received it from years past.

They read the app holistically and choose based on that. Stats aren't so important. I know people with a 2010 on the SAT get nominated, yet people with a 2300+ not (and of course vice versa), with pretty much the same GPA/rigor of course load.

I got it yesterday too. YAY!

My SAT score is pretty low. It's 2000

As mentioned before, the nomination isn't based alone on scores. You probably had strong EC's and a good personal statement which supplemented a decent SAT score.

My D has a UC score in the range 480-485.

Wow! You got mail from the future, congratulations ;)

I also got the letter this morning, and if what you all are saying is true, I am ecstatic!

Jw, how did you get a letter today? I didn't know that the post office delivered on Sundays...

Maybe he didn't check his mail last night. heh
