UCLA Regents?

I recently got mail from UCLA asking me to apply for the $2000 Regents scholarship.

What does that mean, exactly?
...That they are considering me for likely admission?
What percent of students are encouraged to apply?
How many get it after applications?

Thanks in advance for the onslaught of questions :)

1) yes
2) top 1.5%
3) 100 or so

i have a question too. if you get an invitation from UCLA to apply for regents, does it mean that you won’t get other offers from other UC’s to apply for regents as well? do the UC’s cross-reference the different lists?

no, no .

Actually, I believe UCLA and UC Berkeley are the only ones that actually ask you to apply for them. I know that Irvine and San Diego don’t.

but if you get an invitation, does that mean you’re basically in? i know there must be a few exceptions, but like almost 100%?

Is UCLA Regents only for in-state, or is it for out-of-state too?

Stride, I was told over PM that it means that you’re in. I’m not sure about the cross referencing, but a friend attending SD this year informed me that she got Regents for both LA and SD.

I hope it means we’re in  If we’re truly the top 1.5%, and the acceptance rate is 21% ish… it makes sense, even to someone that stinks at math as much as I do.

Soadquake; I think it’s for out of state too, as I know an international student that has been offered it.

I know that at Berkeley, out-of-state students are not notified early (for an interview), if they are selected for Regents. Is that the same at UCLA?

UCLA doesn’t do interviews, so I’m not sure, sorry.

I just got that message in the mail, too. I’m just wondering what is the CPID Number they ask for in the application. Is it just the application ID number?

so if we didn’t get this by yesterday (monday), we essentially aren’t getting it? Or would this not be as well coordinated as to arrive everywhere on the same day? (i’m from norcal btw)

Also, could you guys post stats?

Congrats on getting the application for Regents! Hopefully you’ll want to attend UCLA, and hopefully you’ll get chosen. Regents is just a godsend if your family is low-income.

hmmmmmmm, my S just got his in the mail today (1/28).

So I guess it depends on where you live. We are in the Bay Area.

im from san diego and i just got this in the mail today…

so what does this mean actually? does it mean im pretty much in?

when does berkeley send out its regents letter?

I knew kids who got regents at one UC and were not even accepted at their top choise UC.

if you get regents from ucla or uc berkeley you got in those schools. end of story. (if you get regents from uc riverside that does not mean u got into ucla, though)

D just got today. We’re in Dan Diego, also. I thought I read a thread a while ago, maybe a long while ago, that said this isn’t a guarantee of admission, that some kids who get the letter don’t get accepted. Maybe not. Too bad the UCs (and all of California for that matter) are so screwed up now (budget wise). 10 years ago, acceptance to UCLA would have been very welcome news–not so sure now.

I got the letter today, but i’m not sure if I want to take the time to apply. I don’t think $2000 by itself would make me reconsider the UC system, considering how screwed up California’s budget is right now.

Are there any other benefits to regents? Maybe having to do with class selection?

Can people who have received the letter post some basic stats?

If awarded the UCLA Regents scholarship, you are also given priority registration, parking privileges, and guaranteed housing for four years.

anybody know when admission decisions will be mailed out for UCLA and UC Irvine?
