UCLA Res. Halls VS. Plazas (on-campus) Q

I would like to get a rough estimate of what housing option is the most appealing to UCLA transfers and why. I am having a difficult time deciding myself and would appreciate your input (e.g. Plazas vs res. halls).

Another question, do the majority of transfer students choose to live in the plazas over the residence halls?

edit: I would like to avoid rooming with freshman and sophomores. Thanks for your input.

1) They will try to hook you up with either a transfer student or a third-year student
2) Everything but communal bathroom dorms (i.e. halls) is depressing since people don’t come out of their rooms, from what I’ve heard from my UCLA friends

Thanks for the input! So no matter what housing option I choose I will most likely be partnered up with another transfer, or at least a junior a senior? I want to avoid having to room with freshies and sophs.

I visited my friends at UCLA and they showed me the res halls and plazas. I liked the plazas a lot. Much like a dorm but you don’t have to share bathrooms with the whole hall. They toured me around De Neve and Rieber Terrace and others.

@clak. Yes transfers are usually put in plazas. When I visited Riber Terrace most of the hall that she lived in were transfers. She was one of the few that were continuing students. She said that residential halls are filled with freshmans up to seniors, so we shouldn’t be worried anything if we get put in the res halls. Maybe except having to room with a freshman, but I don’t think that will happen haha.

Are the plaza’s and res halls coed?

Yep, most if not all plazas/halls are coed

Think about this: six people sharing a bathroom that’s cleaned twice a month vs fifty people using a bathroom cleaned twice a day. The plaza bathrooms are going to be disgusting.

My sister lived in a plaza room on a co-ed floor in UCLA. The plaza she lived in (De Neve) is AMAZING! I wish Berkeley had plazas like LA’s too…

So if the floors are coed, are the bathrooms too? Waiting 3 hours for a girl to get ready could be a situation for us guys

Nope. In the res halls there are usually a restroom for guys and girls. For plazas, your plaza mates who are sharing the bathroom with you will be of the same gender.
