<p>Anybody know the pros/cons of the different options of on-campus housing at UCLA?
Residence Hall, Suites or Plazas? I heard the residence halls are very crowded and social. Are the suites as social even thought they arent packed? Any information would be appreciated.</p>
<p>This is a brief overview:</p>
<p>Res Halls: most social, ****tiest living
Plazas: less social, hotel style living
Suites: least social of the 3, apartment style living</p>
<p>I live in a Res Hall (Hedrick), have friends in all the housings, and have spent significant amounts of time in all of them. Feel free to ask specific questions. However, I’m pretty sure there have been like a million threads on this if you just search.</p>

<p>^ living off-campus would probably be the least social…even if it’s right off campus.
Other than that, if it’s cheaper, or more convenient, or you just like it better then go for it.
But I would recommend living on campus…for the social aspect and whatnot.</p>

on the housing application it says a) double room (two applicants) and b) double room, shared bath… does the shared bath mean a private bath shared between roomates or a public one shared between everyone in the building?

<p>I think i remember reading on the FAQs on the housing site that it doesn’t matter when you submit as long as you submit before the deadline. Once the deadline reaches, they’re going to randomly assign numbers to everyone so priority is random.</p>

<p>oh man, i submitted my SIR today and signed up for housing as well. I was confused like crazyyyy but my friend said that resident plaza was pretty good 
so i signed up for that … and then it got to the part where it said triples shared … i was like ***fff ah. oh well, i just signed up for triple</p>
<p>So…are the extra couple thousand worth it between the residence halls and plazas? I’m transferring as a junior and a little scared to risk staying at the halls…</p>

if i dont eat 19 meals, will it go over the next week?</p>

<p>No. Gets more expensive the nicer it is.
Suite > Plaza > Res Hall</p>

<p>In our dorms, each floor has 180 rooms, split into two sides. And each room has 3 people in them. So you can imagine how social it is when you are cramped together with so many people each spaced no more than 15 feet apart.</p>
<p>In the Plazas it’s basically like a hotel, so they have fewer people per floor and much more space. Some floors in plazas are as social as Res Halls and some are quiet. Depends entirely on your floormates.</p>
<p>In the suites, you have even more space and even more privacy inbetween rooms since it’s like an apartment without a kitchen. So most of these are pretty quiet, however, a lot of suites have people coming over a lot. I have a friend that’s an athlete and he throws big parties out of his suite all the time. So it’s basically up to you and your suitemates how social it gets.</p>

<p>I’m not sure on the wording of it, but suites have their own bathroom obviously. Res Halls all have communal bathrooms. Plazas can have either a private bathroom (like De Neve) or a bathroom shared by 2 rooms (like Rieber).</p>

<p>There’s no separation by interests. Somehow all my artsy/art/music major friends know each other though. There’s also a small apartment complex known for having art majors live there, you’ll know it when you see it.</p>

<p>That’s entirely dependent on you. Sproul is the best Res hall to stay in. It’s still a hall, but it’s newly built and furnished so everything in there is nice. That’s usually where everyone wants to live.</p>

<p>The meal plans that say P (14P, 19P) roll over. You get a certain amount at the beginning of the quarter and you can use it whenever you want.</p>
<p>19P is way more than enough. Most people say it’s too much. People here always end up with a lot of swipes leftover at the end and end up getting boxes and boxes of pizza and whatnot. 19 is 19 swipes a week. And remember that 1 swipe will get you into the dining halls. So you could theoretically show up for all you can eat breakfast, all you can eat lunch, and then all you can eat dinner for 3 swipes in a day. UCLA is ranked #12 for food in the nation so you will probably gain weight like everybody does.</p>

Like the double room shared bath means one bathroom? and the other one means two bathrooms? or resident hall style bathrooms?? i don’t get it.</p>

<p>can you gurantee res hall when you transfer?</p>
<p>Does anyone know if transfers are guaranteed housing? Because I’d prefer to live in a suite or plaze (or a res hall, if there are singles), but obviously I can’t do that if there’s no guarantee. Any suggestions?</p>
