UCLA Sociology major

If you knew the difference between studying rocks and studying ppl, then why did you study the former if you liked the latter more? And I can't see how you can have so much interest in Soc if you have never taken a class. However, I'm pleased that you have a good opinion on it.

You know, if you have the time to go to this forum to try to have the last word in an argument w/ a complete stranger, I don't see how you don't have the time for a "test" that does not require much thought. I don't drink either. I work. I have better things to do. But there are some things you just gotta do...only if you have the motivation.

Good to know you're a well-rounded individual who has other plans if your plan for pre-health does not work out.

i dislike it when people think history is a joke major. just follow what you love.

yeah i dont get that either. i would think like ethnomusicology as a joke major. history requires a lot of papers, analysis, and reading. not everyone can do that.

history = pain and suffering for me. I vowed no more history in college. EVER!!!

and premed would be pain and suffereing for me. so history aint a joke for everybody its proven. btw how was the ls 1 midterm?

the ls midterm was okay. But I would not suggest taking it for satisfying the science GE requirement. The class average for chem14A was a 63% <- quite shocking if you ask me. I suspect the ls midterm average will be higher, but why were you interested in taking ls 1 again?

Don't Sociology majors boast a 3.60 average GPA?

oh i thought about taking ls1 for a GE wayy back because i was uninformed. im just asking out of curiosity. so most people in Chem14A are going to get Cs, wow. were you really good at AP chem and bio in HS to beat this curve

no, 40% have B+ to A's, the professor is rather nice. The average mean is so low because there are many in the class who don't care. And there is no curve, it's basically what you get is what you get.

flopsy, I would like a piece of that 3.6 average GPA.

i can never understand when people tell there are people in dificult science classes like LS, chem14 series who don't study or care...

Yuriy, do what you want.
Just be prepared if things don't work out.
That is all I have to say.

how do you guys know these "average gpas?"

we have a secret manual. :)

the people who major in sociology are probably the ones who really want to and thats why their gpas are pretty high.
i want a piece of this secret manual hahaha

no really, how do you guys know the average GPAs

Hmm, I took a Soc class at UCLA and loved it (from Terri Anderson, best prof ever - no tests, no text books, but tons of writing). I thought about majoring in Soc but it just seems so useless for getting a job (totally no offense to anyone who's majoring in it - I may very well be joining you).

I just found out yesterday I got into Comm so I may do that and one more major/minor.

Interesting stuff!

Comm is so much more fun than soc.

Just saying.

Congratulations, nobleguy05.

Thanks flopsy! For a while I was thinking about changing to Polisci or something, just because it seems like Comm has a reputation for being an "easy major" and I want to make sure I'm challenged and am learning stuff towards a useful degree.

But everyone I know at UCLA really enjoys it and apparently at UCLA it's really strong, so I'll probably stay.
