UCLA supplemental info...

hey guys,
I know i should have started working on the supplemental essays already... but i have no idea about what to write for the first question...

"In your application you may have mentioned an extraordinary talent/skill or academic achievement. This may include participation in Junior Olympics, national debate competitions, recognition for musical talent, etc. Please take this opportunity to share with us more detailed information about the level of your achievement, depth of participation, and passion for this particular area."

i guess this prompt would be easy for people who have excellent ECs, but not me!!! i basically had NO ECs at all during high school... i was not in any club or competition... i was thinking about how i worked hard to get into the ELC program.. but im not sure if thats the kind of "academic achievement" ucla wants me to write about... should i skip this prompt or what?!!.

oh and here are my stats:
uc GPA: 3.99 weighted: 4.33
rank: 6 out of 642
SAT I: 1970
SAT II: math 720 chem 680 (T.T)
in ELC program
Chinese immigrant (i came here 3 years ago)..
live with mom,,, but both my parents are disabled, and mom could not work..

Thanks so muchhh!!!!!

How are you expecting to get into a top-tier university with zero ECs? Even people with 4.6+gpa /2400’s can’t get in without ECs.

as far as i know, ELC isn’t a program… it’s an award…

sorta hard to get into here with no ECs outside of academics.

but since you have nothing else, just ham it up and talk about how you worked hard for your grades, parents disabled, etc.

UCLA seems to be using the supplemental questionnaire for a variety of purposes including assessing talent, hardship, and other factors. From what I can tell, most students received the two-question supplement and the questions don’t always seem relevant to the students’ situations. Fill it out to the best of your ability and incorporate any hardships or talent into your response.

Yeah there are two prompts, so maybe the Question 2 pertains more to your situation and that is what they are asking from you?

Umm…I applied to ucla and I have absolutely no ec’s whatsoever. How much of a disadvantage am I at?

you’re not much at a disadvantage if you have 2400 SAT I, 5.0 gpa, and 5 800 SAT IIs.

Yeah none of those but I got the supplemental essay thing so I wrote about how the reason I had no ecs was my family and I went thriught

Sorry…I wrote about how my family went through tough times but through it all I still held on to my dream to go to college… I hope it’s enough

yea thats what i did too… >.<
now lets pray we get accepted…
