I was admitted to both UCLA's Theater, Film, & Television program, as well as USC's School of Cinematic Arts. I don't know which to attend. I've seen promising stats regarding both, but I was hoping I could get some more intimate knowledge from some CCers?

(P.s. Admitted to TFT as a playwright, and SCA in screenwriting.)

Well, I’m never been interested in studying film, but I heard great things about USC’s Cinematic program, which may say something about the outreach of its fame.

@Writing - wait, are you a junior?? I thought you couldn’t get into TFT unless you were a junior. Maybe that’s only for the film major.

Do you want to be a playwright or a screenwriter? If you aren’t sure or want to do both, I’d recommend SCA. You could easily minor in something theatre-related and they even have a Playwrighting minor through the School of Theatre. I think it would be a lot harder to cover both areas at UCLA considering how hard it is for some people just to get through their gen eds and major requirements with all of the recent cuts.

I’m a Freshman sigh , though there’s really nothing to be done about it.

And perhaps for film.

Well, the thing is, I’m more interested in playwriting, but there’s no money in it, so I figured if I went to UCLA I’d just apply for screenwriting MFA programs later on.

Thank you for the advice. I hadn’t been thinking about that.

Dear student,
Have you been on the SC campus and toured the School of Cinematic Arts? There is no comparison as to the facilities offered. The new $100 million dollar complex has the latest equipment, technology, sound stages, computers, lighting available. In the planning stages is a $50 million dollar addition for Animation and Digital Arts.

SCA has incredible faculty as well. Please go to the website and see the list of honors they have received.

SCA alumni are some of the most famous actors, cinematographers, directors and producers in America. The list of Academy Award winners, Golden Globe and Emmy Award winners is long. The website also lists these.

Not as well known, but important, is the famous library. Studios, such as Warner Bros., have donated films, archives, costumes, scripts, etc. Research opportunities are endless.

Before you make a decision I suggest you visit both universities and compare the two programs. Also, be aware UCLA is suffering from the severe budget cuts. SC has small classes and many opportunities for internships and interaction with alumni.
