UCLA Transfer 2018 Waitlist

Hey everyone. I’ve been waitlisted as an econ major. Anyone have any ideas of what the process is for how they choose waitlisted students? Is it based on the individual student, the major, is it by department or college?

Also, what are my chances of getting in? Will a significant portion of students deny UCLA in order to open up spots for the rest of us waitlisted students?

Hello, I’ve been waitlisted by UCLA as well as a Chemistry major. I’m not exactly sure how the process works but wanted to reply and start some conversation on this thread! Let the waiting begin (again).

Waitlisted for Neuroscience

GPA for transferable courses: 3.59
Overall: 3.62
IGETC: No, isn’t required.
Pre-reqs: complete. Also doing an extra quarter of OChem (only 2 quarters required).

They ask for the winter quarter grades when you sign up for the waitlist. My gpa went down from 3.59 to 3.56, but i was taking three lab classes.

Winter grades:
Organic chemistry 12B = A
Organic chemistry lab 12BL = A
Biology 1C = B+
Physics 2B = B-

Spring in-progress courses:
Organic chemistry 12C
Organic chemistry lab 12CL
English 1B
Physics 2C

Here’s my Stats:

Transferring from CCC in the Los Angeles Area as a Chemistry Major

UC GPA: 3.66 (got A’s in all my chem classes, all the way to O-Chem 2)
Overall GPA: 3.70
IGETC: Completed
Pre-reqs: I will complete the required pre-req by Spring 2018.
TAP: No

ECs:

-President of Chemistry Club (won an award from ACS as a club)
-Participated in Undergraduate Research, went to ACS Meeting in 2018 to present our poster board
-Lab Assistant for my former chemistry professor
-Chemistry Tutor for 1 year
-Won the Freshmen of the Semester Scholarship/Award
-Biology Club member
-Part time job (about 25 hours a week)

Notes:

-I’m Non-Trad, DACA student, living with single mother.
-Korean Female

Thought I had a solid chance, but I guess my GPA just didn’t cut it. Should have done TAP or something…

Got into UCI and UCSB so far, waiting on UCSD’s decision. I think I’ll attend UCI most likely since it’s closest to Los Angeles if I don’t get into UCLA!

Most people on the wait list will NOT be admitted. Just letting you know.

Yeah, I thought so. I already started looking for housing or commuting plans for UCI :> I’m not dependent on getting off the waitlist but it’ll be a pleasant surprise.

Yeah I’m hoping for UCSD now. But there’s still a chance.

@alicantekid How do you know that? Any resources you can share on the topic?

Also, I got accepted to UCSB, UCD, UCSC, waiting on Berkeley.
3.63 transferable GPA for Econ, strong e.c’s, and strong statements.

@RadioProtector65 Same. I’m just waiting on Berkeley.

These are on the FAQ of the UCLA site.
“Are students on the waitlist ranked?
No, students on the waitlist are not ranked. After the June 1 Statement of Intent to Register deadline, we will review our waitlist and offer admission to students who are best qualified if any spaces are available in our entering class.”

SO I assume they don’t choose by department or major etc.

Also, you’ll be notified if you’ve got off the waitlist in early June which is after the SIR date.

Know that the site states they will release the stats on the amount on the waitlist later on.

@Mujtarin That’s how college admissions works. The university admits far more students than they want to enroll. But based on years of data, they are pretty good at predicting how many students they need to offer to get them the number they want. For example, let’s say UCLA wants to enroll 2,000 transfer students in the fall. They might make offers to 5,000 applicants, since they historically expect to yield around 40% of the admit pool. So that means that they expect 3,000 admitted students to turn them down.

The waitlist is there in case they are off on their prediction and too many students turn them down.

And even if UCLA comes in low, it depends on which majors are low. So if you were waitlisted as a Psych major, but the Psych major is not low, then they’re not going to make offers to wait listed students from Psych.

My advice is to hope for the best, but move on from UCLA, start looking closely at the schools that did offer you admission, and maybe after June 1st you’ll hear good news. But don’t expect to be offered. That’s just the reality of it. Hopefully you’re one of the lucky ones.

I applied for engineering geology and got waitlisted

My first year at a uc: 3.3 gpa
Second year at CCC: 3.68

I have all the prereqs done so I guess it was just a matter of GPA.

What do you guys think would be appropriate to write in the waitlist message box thing? I know its optional but what would go in there if you had something to put?

I am also wait listed

Political science major 3.52 transferable g.p.a

Although it did get a 4.0 fall 2017

Good luck guys
@Gumbymom Has all the waiting list numbers, if she has time to “bless” this thread lol.

@eribadmon and CC posters: Unfortunately the UC’s do not post waitlist stats on their common dataset for Transfers, only Freshman applicants so I cannot give you any recent information.

This is from Ms Sun’s website for 2015: https://■■■■■■■■■■■■/docs/2015TransferWaitlistAppealCancellation.pdf

@alicantekid Alright thank you for the info.
