I'm still a high school senior and about to graduate this June. The thing about me is that I took classes at our local community college through our senior year. Throughout high school my GPA was a 2.1. I'll have IGETC done by fall 2009 and I've figured out that I'll transfer after 1 year after graduating.

So my intended major is Physiological science. I don't know if that is an impacted major? D:

Here are the courses I need to take which I got off of Assist.org There are two prerequisite that isn't articulated at my community college which is a genetics class and molecular biology. Will those two courses affect my admissions?

Principles of Biology I (done by fall 09)
Principles of Biology II ( done by spring 10)
General Chem I (done by fall 09)
General Chem II done by spring 10)
Organic Chem I (not going to take)
Organic Chem II (Not necessary to be completed at a CC but recommended for better chances) (not going to take)
Physics I (not necessary to be completed at a CC but recommended for better chances) (fall done by fall 09)
Physics II(not necessary to be completed at a CC but recommended for better chances) (spring of 10)
Calculus I (fall done by fall 09)
Calculus II (fall done by spring 10)

O chem I is a prequisite. but im not going to take it since its going to add up to 90 credits by spring. But i am taking 2 semesters of physics which isn't necessary but it would boost up my chances. If i take 2 semesters of physics instead of o chem I will that affect my chances? or is that better?

Feel free to post up your chances or plans to transfer too like i did D:
Im so excited D:

um, what kind of grades are you getting at community college? i graduated high school with a 1.9 and i wasn’t getting good grades at CC until my second year.

Definately take Ochem, UCLA really looks at pre-reqs I’m sure of it. My friend had 4.0 and got rejected because he didn’t have Ochem, while I got in with a lower gpa and ochem done. I have way over 90 credits so don’t worry about it as science majors we have a lot of units to take.

no because they still count you as a junior coming from community college no matter how many units you take. if you were from a university or state school and had over…90? then you are considered a senior and most schools don’t take seniors. all your classes will be counted in your gpa, and counted as course credit at the uc so you don’t have to retake them.

Yeah nproamr is correct; you can’t max out at a CCC so take as many pre-req classes if you can and definitely keep your grades up if your goal is either UCLA or Cal.

I wouldn’t rush into it. You might not even end up liking bio. If you’re doing it for just pre-med its not worth it. Take your first bio class and see how you like then decide then.

And doesn’t physics require calculus before taking it? If so, you can’t really finish your physics during the 1st year.

O-chem is plus to take too. Makes you way more competitive. Most of the people in my O-chem 2 class got into UCLA, even the low gpas (3.3ish). I wouldn’t rush being transferred either. Even if you get into UCLA early, you have to go through O-chem and lower division bio classes which you take at a CC for cheaper.
