UCLA Transfer FAQ

I thought I’d start a thread here for my fellow transfers. I began one in another part of this discussion board, but it quickly died. I’m hoping this will be more successful…

Freshmen input is always welcome :)

Any questions or concerns, please post :)

Where is everyone getting this “3.2” GPA from? I keep reading that this is the GPA we’re supposed to maintain for the SPRING term in order to keep our admission. Can someone help clarify this? The provisional contract doesn’t give a specific GPA.

Anyone report any academic changes? What were the cirumstances surrounding your report and how soon did you hear back from them? It’s been a week and I haven’t received any news from LA, except that I’m still under review…This is quite disconcerting…

Answer to 1.

Dear XXXXX,

Admitted transfers should maintain their current GPA as indicated on the self-reported application. We do not have a specific minimum GPA. If there has been a change in courses or drop in grades, please fill out a Provisional Problem Form.

Thank you,

It appears that if our overall GPA plummets from the GPA calculation from our application, our admission is probably in jeopardy.

Where can we find the estimated costs of UCLA? (housing +tuition, etc)

Jasonx88:

Go to LA's homepage, click on current students, click on the first link in the right hand column, put your mouse on the FAO information tab and select cost of education. I think if you want specific hall costs, that information should be in the housing section of the website.

"It appears that if our overall GPA plummets from the GPA calculation from our application, our admission is probably in jeopardy."

So if my current gpa is 3.91 but I get a 3.50 or 3.25 gpa for this spring semester, my admission will be in jeopardy?

Hi Newton:

I hope I didn't alarm you, but that was how I interpreted LA's response...So I guess if your overall GPA at the time you submitted your application in the Fall was a 3.91, after calculating in your Spring grades, your overall GPA should still be a 3.91...or better. I could be totally wrong though. Anyone else want to take a stab at this?

Update on 2.

I was finally contacted by an admissions advisor today, via email of course, who wanted me to give her my current standings in my classes...I must be one of those borderline applicants...I think I'll know what my fate will be by the end of tomorrow...

Best of luck kaymoua!

My gpa is 4.0 now, but I am expecting my spring semester gpa will fall to 3.5 ..
so the overall gpa may drop to around 3.9
so you are saying that UCLA may take back my offer and I have to keep 4.0 gpa this semester too?

My question:
Is the university apartment first come first serve?
I am planning to live in UA if I decide to go to UCLA...
I haven't accepted the offer and sent the S.I.R. yet..
because i am still thinking where to go...
UCSD offer me math and econ joint major
and UCLA offer me pre business econ major...

MadeInChina:

Thank you! You're so kind! I'll post up the decision tomorrow...

BlackIris:

Wow. Your GPA puts my GPA to shame... :) I think that since your GPA is so high, I really think that that drop of a tenth of a point shouldn't be an issue for you... Maybe that disclaimer in the provisional contract is simply for those students, like me, who were borderline...

As far as housing goes, I'm not sure how they assign housing... Even though I'm not sure what'll happen to me with regard to LA, (I was accepted by LA and SD, and I haven't submitted my SIR to either - I'm trying to iron out these yucky things first...) I sent in my housing application, just in case it is a first-come, first-serve...

My overall GPA is 3.6 and I think my semester GPA will be 3.5. WTH..Will I get rejected? Even Berkeley only requires maintaining 3.0 for this semester.

kaymoua1123:
I just wonder why LA doesn't set a clear gpa requirement for the last term...
just like other UCs
I am not taking any major class this semester, I just need 2 more GE classes to fulfill igetc

I thought we need to submit the SIR before we can apply for the housing..

go2007:

That's great that Cal explicitly states that! I know SD says that as long as we get a 2.0 Spring semester, and have at least an overall GPA of a 2.8 (after calculatig Spring grades), we should be fine. LA doesn't give a specific GPA...Even after asking them, they keep saying that as long as we maintain our current GPA, as in the GPA that they calculated up until the Spring semester, we should be fine. I really think you should be fine though, as long as no D's or F's. I think they only requested my current grades because my GPA was below a "B" average..

BlackIris:

No, we can apply for housing without submitting the SIR. All you'll lose, if you decide to go somewhere else, is the $30 application fee.

can someone repeat the max units we can transfer?

if we took the math placement exam during orientation,

is it possible to still get the results, and if it is, who should i talk to?

Jason,

you'll get your math exemption results back during orientation. your score will determine which math level you can take, if you need it.

thanks for the feedback, but i think theres a misunderstanding. i already took the math placement exam last orientation, and i was wondering where/who i need to talk to in order to get my old results from the placement exam.

nvm...got it

About the GPA drop...

Unless you dip REALLY low (like, below 3.0) you will not have your offer rescinded. Sheesh. Stop worrying everyone.

3.0 semester gpa or overall?

I'd say having 3.0 semester AND overall is best, but if you have one bad semester you can usually negotiate it quite easily.
