Ucla transfer orientation

a night or 2 before the actual date

a friend of mine who goes to UCLA told me not to go to orientation and that no one he has talked to who went didn’t already know what they were told or found out about the information somewhere else.

i didn’t go to the transfer admit day but im planning on going to orientation still. i think itll still be worth going.

im going to orientation too. hopefully the first one. anyone know how many spots there are for each day?

just wondering where exactly we sign up for orentation tomorrow? will a new option for “orientation” show up on myucla? is it on URSA? or whattttt?

all it says on the ‘New Bruins’ site is that we will be able to sign up through MyUcla.

[New Bruins - Orientation - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](Admitted Students | UCLA Undergraduate Admission)

signing up…

how are you signing up? it doesn’t open up until tomorrow morning.

How will you guys go to the orientation? by car, plane or bus?

I am trying to find a bus from San Jose/Fremont to UCLA now =.=

I’m from the bay area too… Is it really worth going???
I’m so broke right now…

btw mysterious88, there used to be this thing called “Megabus” that was really cheap - took you to LA in less than 7 hrs for $1~30 (early birds pay just $1). BUT they went bankrupt in CA so they moved over to the east coast… It’s a shame… that was the cheapest thing from norcal -> socal that I know of!

I suggest Virgin Air… or if you feel adventurous, craiglist’s ‘rideshare’. Single drivers are always looking for passengers to chip in for gas for a ride down to socal. But beware of serial killers… :)

What is the EARLY FEE ARRIVAL ABOUT? Why do we need to fork up another $50 bucks?

fortune, they put you up in a dorm room if you fly in the night before. for that, they charge another $50.

mysterious, i’ve done craigslist rideshares to/from the bay 6 times now and have only great things to say about my experiences. there’s something really cool about it… like, every other time you’re in close proximity to a stranger for an extended period of time (plane, bus, lines, concerts, etc), there often arrises the tendency to talk to them… BUT, you’ve always got the option of walking away from that conversation, or ending it whenever you want…
this isn’t the case in a car…
i mean, i’ve been through 6 hour plane flights, passing them perfectly, hardly ever speaking a word.
the same isn’t true for being in a car.
you’re totally enclosed, you’re sitting RIGHT next to the other person, listening to the same music, experiencing the same stimuli… it’d be far more awkward not to converse than it would be to have an awkward conversation… that being said, you’ll inevitably feel obliged to talk to this stranger for a few hours, but after that, odds are you’ll never seem them again!
this allows for an incredibly authentic freedom of thought in conversation that i don’t think can be recreated anywhere else. that mutual understanding of the parameter around your relationship… acknowledging that you’ll both probably never see each other again afterwards allows the conversation to shift from the mundane to a more insightful and personal conversation than you might initially have thought was possible to achieve with someone you’ve known (or rather haven’t known) for such a short period of time. after the first hour, you’ll find yourself far more uninhibited than you’re used to being. i don’t know… maybe i lucked out and met some interesting people…
good luck.

also, i’ve had a few drinks tonight…
sorry for ranting… but i firmly believe that C-list rideshares provide for great experiences, each of which promises an exclusive introspection that you won’t soon forget.

thanks pskate and pinkerfloyd. Well I will take a bus to china town in LA, then get on a metro bus line to UCLA then. Pskate, how much is the round trip fare for Virgin Air?

it’s not allowing me access to read the educational planner so that i can sign up! anybody else having this problem?!

I got through the educational planner. Now I’m just waiting for the reservation to be submitted. But it’s just loooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadddddddddddddddddd
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggggg…

got through the educational planer, and only mange to get to the 202 session…

If I check in the arrive early, it means that I also gurantee a dorm room to stay or I have to apply for that too? (not the housing, just a room to stay for orientation)
