Ucla transfer orientation

I'm just wondering how many of you are going to attend the upcoming transfer orientations at UCLA:)
PS: I know each orientation session costs $120 but I think it's worth the money.

holy poo it costs money? jesus. well, i’m going to go and weep as my bank account continues to dwindle…

I’m curious. Why would they charge us $120 to gather information about the university? That’s absurd.

Do you know when the orientation will be? Hopefully the beginning of June because I’ll be in summer school.

TY ballsr :)

To answer your question, the orientation is required for some students depending on their department as described below.

[UCLA Orientation Program](http://orientation.ucla.edu/enrollment.htm)

SESSION DETAILS: ENROLLMENT AND ADVISING
COURSE ADVISING
Academic advising is essential for appropriate course enrollment and academic counselors will be available to assist you during your Orientation session. All incoming students are strongly encouraged to attend an Orientation session so that you have assistance in choosing the right classes.

If you cannot attend an Orientation session, keep in mind that UCLA academic advisors are dedicated to the Orientation sessions and may be unable to meet with you until after the summer sessions have ended.

Students in the following schools are required to receive academic advising prior to enrolling in classes:

Students in the School of the Arts & Architecture
School of Theater, Film, and Television
School of Engineering and Applied Science
School of Nursing

College of Letters & Science

While students in The College are not required to attend an Orientation session, it is strongly urged that you do so. Departmental counselors in many academic areas will be meeting with you, and undeclared students will have the opportunity to explore areas of study by talking to advisors and attending various workshops designed for this purpose.

School of Arts & Architecture and School of Theater, Film & Television

Students in the School of Arts & Architecture and the School or Theater, Film & Television will have designated sessions available to you based on specific majors. If you are unable to attend one of your specific sessions please contact the Orientation Office at (310) 206-6685. While you will be able to attend a different session, we cannot guarantee that your departmental counselor will be available to meet with you at that time.

ENROLLMENT
Enrollment in courses for Fall Quarter takes place during your Orientation session. Whether you attend the first or the last Orientation session, you will find a wide range of available courses, including courses that meet General Education, major and degree requirements. Because of the high demand for a particular session date, it is important to sign-up for your Orientation session online as early as possible. All students attending Orientation will be able to find courses for the Fall Quarter.

If you do not, or cannot, attend an Orientation session, you must contact the Orientation office at (310) 206-6685 to obtain important information about all the things that you will need to do on your own, including how to enroll.

UCLA BRUINCARD
Your UCLA BruinCard is your student ID, registration card, library card, recreation center card, residence hall access card, and more. For a complete listing of all the uses for the BruinCard - including using it as a debit card for UCLA restaurants, the UCLA Store and some Westwood merchants - go to [Welcome to UCLA’s BruinCard](http://www.bruincard.ucla.edu).

In order to obtain your BruinCard, you will need to mail in a 2” x 2” photo with a white background (like a passport photo) along with your signed BruinCard Terms & Conditions statement to the BruinCard Center at least 3 weeks before your Orientation session. For further instruction on how to obtain your BruinCard, go to [UCLA Undergrad Admissions: New Bruins - BruinCard](Apply for a BruinCard | Undergraduate Admission).

In order to apply for parking on campus for Fall Quarter 2009, you must submit a student parking application by July 24, 2009. Applications will be available starting June 1, 2009.
PLACEMENT EXAMINATIONS

Mathematics Diagnostic Exam
French Placement Exam
German Placement Exam
Spanish Placement Exam
Music Theory Placement Exam
Analytical Placement Writing Exam - out-of-state residents only

PLACEMENT EXAMS continued - tests and requirements

crap!

I signed up for it, but saw nothing about a $120 fee. This sucks…

Hey anyone know what placement exams a Poli Sci transfer will have to take?

Is this an all day orientation? It says check-in is at 7:30 am. Damn that’s early. Isn’t there a parent’s orientation? Why is there an orientation for our parents? I know it sounds dumb but they never did that when I attended orientation for UCSC.

There was a parents orientation when i went to UCSB…

even as transfers into the poli. sci. major we have to take placement exams, CCBolts?

i’m goingggg, hopefully the first one.

syntaxx how did you sign up? it’s not open to register until June 1st.

I’m trying for the first one too… CC meet up ya’ll?? christ, 7:30 is early. I may go later in the day if the morning is just presentation crap.

CBBolts, It says it just depends on the type of courses you plan to take. So maybe a math placement exam. i hope we dont have to though.

Can’t we just look at the courses we need to take listed on our individual major department? That’s how I knew which classes to take for summer school. I’m most likely going to sign up for fall quarter before going to orientation and if necessary, change my courses there.

Hi, how worth is it to attend the Orientation while I am under college and letter science ? Is there any very crucial info that can only be got from this Orientation ?

If I do not attend the Orientation, would I still be able to register for the Fall quarter on the same period of time with those who attend Orientation? Anyway, would they get earlier registration?

Thanks.

You’d probably survive at UCLA without attending orientation first, but it would really, really help. L&S is the only college that doesn’t require you to attend, so, apparently every other college at UCLA thinks it’s very important.

I’m not sure about your second question, but I think you’ll have to register after the orientations have ended (and after everyone who attended). So yes, I think attending orientation gives you a priority registration, in a matter of speaking. We’ll still be registering after all current UCLA students though.

anyone know what early arrival means??
