UCLA transfer - What happens if I drop elective course?

Hi all, I am a California community college student who is very happy to get admission from UCLA.

My major is linguistics and I am currently taking two classes for this spring semester.

Geology w/ lab, which is required for my IGETC, and one sociology class.

So I’m doing very well with my geology class and I’m certain that I will get A or B.

However, this sociology class is just becoming a huge burden.

This sociology class is not a major preparation, nor it is required for my IGETC. I just took this class because I thought that taking only one class might look… a little bit weird. But now I feel that my choice was the weird one. The class was filled with the hardest stuff I have ever encountered. God, I regret taking this class. I might fail if I don’t do really well for the remaining exams.

So I met my counselor and discussed withdrawing this class. Since this class is not related to both of major and IGETC, she said that she have seen students like me before and advised me to contact UCLA to ask them if it would be ok.

Has anyone had a similar issue like mine? I would like to drop this class if UCLA says it’s ok. However, I am still worried that my admission might get rescinded if I drop this class. Any opinions are welcome! I would really appreciate if anyone could give me some similar experience!

Thanks,

Don’t fish for opinions. Call UCLA and get the real answer. GL

Each case is different, but mine may ease your mind.

I applied as a philosophy major and was accepted. However, I dropped a major pre-req (which is technically “strongly recommended”, not required for admission). I reported it on the portal and seven business days later, UCLA informed me that the drop does not impact my admissions status.

If I can drop a class like that, I’d venture to bet that you can safely drop a course that has zero bearing on your major. Just be sure to inform UCLA via the portal. Good luck!

Well, as of now, I called UCLA and they said that they cannot give me answer for “What would happen if” situations. However they just told me that I will need to report the changes anyways. The official withdrawal date for my community college is 05.15.16 so I guess I will have to think more. Thanks!
