I want to go to Ucla and I keep reading everywhere that the minimum gpa requirement for the psych program is like a 3.8-3.9. My first year of college I would say I got a 3.5 and this fall semester I got a 4. I am going to be do be finishing all the prereqs that are given and the ones from assist too. if I keep getting 3.5-4 gpas are my chances good? I am currently doing a lot of volunteer work as well as a part of the psych club at my cc. Any advice on how up my chances? I know the psych program is impacted but anything could help!
Grades are the most important. Keep it up with your ECs and possibly add even more to stand out from other applicants. Study hard, and you’ll have no worries

I’m a ucla alum. I used this forum before i transfered. Earn high grades, and complete the honors program at your school. Be sure to mention how your ecs helped shape your goals.
@peanut527 The 25th percentile GPA for UCLA admitted Psych majors in Fall 2016 was a 3.71, so unfortunately your chances for admission are quite low. BUT, if you will be applying with a GPA around 3.5-3.6, your best bet is to complete the honors program and get TAP certified by your CC to dramatically increase your chances of getting in. TAP will give you priority consideration, and it will also allow you to declare an alternative, noncompetitive major that UCLA will consider if they don’t accept you with your first choice major. This is essentially like getting TWO chances at admission for the price of one, and is a perk that non-TAP students do not receive.
In short: Join your CC’s honor program and get TAP certified to dramatically increase your chances of getting in with a 3.5 GPA. Even if this will require an additional year of community college, it is worth it and quite frankly, is your only hope at having a good chance at getting accepted to UCLA.
Good luck!
If I get 3.8-4 gpa for the rest of my year at community college will that bump up my chances? because I have a whole year left of doing the major preparatory courses to do so if I get 4’s will that be okay?
I also applied for psych at ucla and currently have a 3.9 gpa. but i took college courses for high school credit during my junior/senior year and had a 3.3 gpa then… not sure how much that hurts my chance of acceptance since it was for high school and since graduating i’ve had all As except one class. fingers crossed!
