Ucla/uc berkeley- acceptance opinion- please and thank you

Hi, guys! This is my first time making a post and the first time I've ever asked this question to the public, but what do you think my chances are at getting into UCLA or UC Berkeley with these stats: (please leave constructive criticism if you have any)

SAT's: 2050 CR: 650 M: 690 W:710
AP's: AP Literature, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics. For the tests I've taken so far I've gotten 4's and 5's.
Unweighted GPA: 4.0.
Weighted: Not sure... sorry
I am an OUT OF STATE applicant
Subject tests: Biology M: 680 Math lv 2: 710 (I know they are bad... I'm retaking math, I was sick that day. While I realize this isn't an excuse, I will be retaking it)

EC: President of NHS, VP of Junior Statesmen of America, VP of Speech and Debate, Treasurer of Key Club, head of a music tutoring program I started in Elementary schools, part of ICL, or the Institute for Community Leadership, part of Puget Sound Youth Wind Ensemble (like a Youth symphony- 3 years).

I started a music tutoring program for the elementary schools in my area which I am the head of. I've been running it for three years now and its been very successful. I also recieved the Pacific North West Distingushed Treasurer Award (or Treasurer of the Year) in Key Club and also qualified for both State and Nationals in Debate (I placed in State). I'm trying to emphasize my dedication to service and love for music with my EC's as a sort of theme so things don't just seem random.

I also did some research at a university under a professor (University of Washington)-- it was on Genome and Biology-- nothing ridiculous like trying to cure cancer or anything. I want to go into the medical field in college, just an fyi.

Well, that's what I have for now... I might come back later to update in case I forgot something, but please give me your best opinions. On a side note, I will be retaking the SAT's again to raise my scores as high as possible.

Thanks again! I really appreciate it, guys.

Honestly, I think you have a very good shot at both UCLA and UCB - if not guaranteed admission. There have been many kids in my high school (orange county, CA) that had similar academic success, and only had band as their EC, get into UCLA and UCB. I think you could get into some better schools with scholarships/financial aid. GL!

Your extracurriculars look much better than your stats (which Cal and UCLA focus on to a greater extent), but out-of-state applicants are getting better and better admissions results these days. California as a state is strapped for cash.

I refuse to post a traditional chance. Only an assessment. =) That’s all I’m qualified to do, really.

Hi there!

thank you for replying to my request, even though you did not post a traditional chance; I understand and respect that, I appreciated the assesment. I do have a question though. You said California is a state that is strapped for cash… would this mean that they would want MORE out of state applicants, as they would bring in more money? Oh, and I forgot to mention, I’m ranked 1 in my class/school if that affects your answer in any way, though I am not asking for a ‘chancing’

Thanks again

Hey!!

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it greatly. I did for get to mention I’m ranked 1 in my graduating class, but I doubt that will change your answer too much. Thanks for the positive feed back. I’ll be sure to push through senior year, apply, and then wait with excitement.

Your reading and math aren’t as high as Berkeley and ucla want from sat and being out of state is a slight disadvantage but your ECs and GPA give you great chances I think. Definitely apply

Hey there!

Thanks for the comment, appreciate it. I realize that the math and reading aren’t that high… which kind of bites. When I looked up their averages I actually fell above their tresholds… but I guess it’s higher for out of state, right? Well, that’s why I’m trying to beef up my EC’s to give me an extra boost. I’m guessing, with no arrogance intended, that my SAT scores are decent and not too far below par. With my EC’s and SAT’s I’m at least trying to pull of UCLA… that’s pretty much my number one choice.

Reasonable shot. Very good shot with 2100 plus SAT score. Stats no longer need to be higher for OOS, they really need the money.

One thing though, these are not the best choices for a pre med. Very hard to get the high GPA you’ll need. For the same money you can attend a good private with grade inflation.

OP, you’re match for Berkeley L&S. Now you only just have to play on your odds. Berkeley’s odds are 1:4. I’d definitely apply if I were you and attend if accepted, unless HYPSM offered you admissions too.

Hey RML, thanks for the reply. Could you please clarify what ‘OP’ and ‘HYPSM’ stand for? Thank you

OP = operating poster / the person who started the thread

HYPSM = Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT
