UCLA/UCB Question

Is it true that most people get into one or the other but not both?

So if I got into UCLA there is a higher chance that I won't get into UCB? Or if i got into UCB then theres a higher chance that I won't get into UCLA?

I've heard of that before too. And actually I know two people who got into UCLA and not UCB, and one person who got into UCB and not UCLA. ::shrug:: who knows...

Most people that make one, will make the other.

I think that's just a rumor... though things like that can happen.

Applications are reviewed indepently; each campus will not know what other campuses you applied to.

It's just a rumor. We'll never know for sure.

I think people just like to use it as an excuse for why they get into one and not the other. I think if you are qualified for one, you are probably qualified for the other.

I hear they do that in order to get higher yield. Just a rumor.

It's just a lie. Common sense alone should tell you that getting into one means you have a good chance of getting into the other...

hahah i wonder who made up that BS. tons of my friends from last year got accepted to both schools- as well as people who only got into one. both are excellent and to suggest this seems juvenile.

Tell you the truth, Berkeley being Berkeley ( very liberal adcom ) would sometimes admit a student UCLA has rejected. That is not uncommon. Also this has been covered ad naseum before but I just say it again, with all due respect to UCLA as one of the top public schools anywhere, Berkeley is ahead in more nationally-ranked departments than UCLA, and has more international recognition than UCLA. The two schools are not equivalent.

holistically the two colleges are not equivalent. berkeley is a "HYPSM" in the graduate school world.

however, for the undergrad, the experience isn't too different, and the quality of the students at each school aren't too far off either.

there are many students at both schools got who into the other. there are also many students at both schools who didn't get into the other.

Berkeley may be more prestigious, but the admissions are very similiar. In fact, UCLA has a lower acceptance rate.

Because more people apply there. Because it's a better environment.

If there is a relationship between the two I doubt it's all that big. But I'd be happy to get into UCLA or UCB, no matter which one.

btw when berkeley said they will notify the decision on the evening of march 30th................... what is the time ca standards....because im on the east coast and i dont wait because idk what time it is in ca

California time (PST) = East-coast time (EST) minus 3 hours
